Transome questions

i repaired part of this transome, which you can see because it is not finished. but i was wondering if someone has already repaired the whole transome in the past. the reason i had to repair was because the fiber glass was cracked on top of the transom. on the top part of the transome there was a 1 1/2 inch piece of wood then it went to a composite. i thought i read on here the transome is all wood? also i thought i read on here that the VIN # was imprinted into the boat, but this one has a tag on it. any advice would be great!!
VIN #:ASPP0123M78E(CANT READ IT IN PICTURE)

What year is your boat? I got the feeling your transom was probably rebuild at one point, but why that piece of wood? Maybe the PO ran out of pourable core material

The boat was sold to me as a 1979. but the last 2 numbers in the VIN are 78.

78 or 79, they came with a wood transom, so yours was previously redone. Is the transom solid ? doesn't flex?

the transome does not felix, but why would the fiberglass start cracking if this was redone?

Because of the piece of wood that was there I guess
I don't think the VIN tag is original, I had one on mine too and later find out that my transom was not original
