I just completed the prep work to repaint my boat. It certainly is not an understatement to say this process is labor intensive! My body is aching from all of the sanding! :x
One of the VERY time consuming jobs was to remove the old stripes. The boot stripe came of with a little heat from a heat gun. That stripe was only 5 years old. The original three stripes on the side were a bear to remove. They were baked on and all scrstched up. I heated them and then used a sharp metel scraper to remove the vinyl. A lot of adheasive remained on the boat. I researched to find the best remover and MMM General Adheasive Remover was highly recomended. I used a whole can and still had more than half of the boat to complete! Since I had no more I decided to try lacquer thinner. It worked much better than the MMM product.
All the decals are now gone and the first coat of epoxy primer is on the boat, both inside and out!
