Angle of Deadrise on a 19-6?
« on: March 21, 2009, 10:21:36 AM »
I'm cutting some skiffs for my trailer today.  Would anyone happen to know what the deadrise angle is on the stern of a 19-6?

Thanks

I broke open the dusty old Trig book and figured it out.  The deadrise angle is 14.96degrees (15 degrees) for future reference.

Thanks anyway guys.

Jessie,
Law of Sines, my friend.  Sine 90deg/Hypoteneuse = Sin(x)/Height.  Do the division, consult a sine table, and, viola, you have your deadrise angle.

Yeah, it's been a little longer for some of us, but trig is one of the more useful math applications. :D

Bob-

I actually used that same formula, but I had to consult the book for it because I completely forgot  :wink: .  That's amazing that you remember that formula, but I'm guessing you use it way more than I do in your line of work.

I miss you on THT.......

Nah, some s*** just sticks in my head!  Actually, after 3 semesters of Calculus and one semester of Differential Equations, it's one of the easier and more useful formulas to remember!

Check out reelboating.com.  Wiley has finally gotten out from underneath the THT "no compete" clause and it is up and running with the same names you know and love (and hate) from THT.

RickK, forgive me.  Classic AS is still my refuge...   :D

The Aquasport spec sheet says 12 degrees, but as the old EPA mileage thing used to say, "yours may differ..."  According to the specs, the 170, 196, and 222 series (including Osprey) were all 12 degree deadrise (semi-V), and the CCP, FF, and XF series were 20 degree deadrise (deep-V) until Genmar took over.  After that, things got a little strange as some models changed - different makes came into play with different names and models for the same hulls.

Hope this helps - see ya on the water!

Save a couple of steps and use..... opposite (height)/adjacent(base) =tangent
And we surveyors quit using log and function tables in 74 with the advent of the scientific calculator. :wink:

Fun all right.
Like sweat drippin' on the pages in the early morn in deep South Dade or a half high rodman stumbling into your coffee and staining the whole page.
Yes sir, some fun. :scratch:

I have a 1978 ff that I am converting to a center console - the deadrise on the hull is 12 degrees, I checked it.

..

Here's another way to remember:

SOH ( soak ) => Sine = opposite/adjacent

CAH ( a ) => Cosine = adjacent/hypotenuse

TOA (toe ) => Tangent = opposite/hypotenuse

At least that's what I learned in College Trig at Florida Tech : )
