I've told them, and even passed the phone over to my main partner when I had Bobbie on the phone {from SeaCast}

she asked how long we might have the boat,how big is the motor, what type of water will the boat be in, etc etc.
all the right questions.

I'm pushing for this BIGTIME, but it's a chore to get the motor off again,once that is off, I'll go to town on that transom :lol: ,I've already ordered a 24" wood auger bit, as well as a few short versions of that bit for starter holes.

I plan on us doing this the right way.....I mean,Why would we have a 200 HP motor,and not be able to use it ?, and why else would we have JUST paid to have it completely restored , if we couldn't use 1/2 the power in fear of losing it as well as the transom  :shock:

Also:

I just got the gauges I ordered !
Faria Chesapeake series {universal 0/B 7K RPM with Hourmeter, Fuel,Volt, and oil pressure & sender}
Will the oil pressure gauge and sender be of use since were pre-mixing our fuel/oil for the 2 stroke ?
I also got some Antec 3 wire instrumentation cable for hooking them up.
But I could use some help !!!! as I'm not sure how to do it ?

thanks
Bill
Thanks

Update:

Unless something bad happens, we won't be doing a transom fix or jackplate replacement till next year. {wish us luck :roll: }

we just got our batteries, 2 group 31 optima yellow tops, The house battery will have everything except the bilge on it,
the start battery will have the bilge run direct in auto mode.

I have all LED lighting on the boat, nav,anchor,20" under gunnel strips,and as soon as I can figure out a mounting method.... an led mega {spreader light} .

I just replaced the hatch guides {teak tracks} with a heavier version of plasteak.

And last night I finished wiring the stereo {Dual MX-D70} to a gimball enclosure, I'll install it into the boat in a few days.

and again, the weather has not been good at all  :x , took off work several days and not much to show for it....

We still need to mount a tach,fuel ,and volt gauge.
I have 16/4 wire for the gauges, but I believe I need a tach harness {5 plug female round plug harness with a flat spot inside the circle.}
I'm kinda lost with these gauges ?????? and could use some help  :oops:

hope to hear from someone

this thread really bit the dust  :roll:

Ordered and received a Teleflex "Mercury" Tach harnhess !! from Bass-Pro shops !
exactly what I was looking for,it simply plugged right in ! :)
I cut the holes for the gauges, {Tach,fuel,volt}, and I wanted to have a console switch for the backlight of the gauges....
but it got too technical for me :oops:
I decided to just leave the backlight on the gauges lit from the ACC-ON position.doing it this way, they will be done by the end of the day on Thursday !

Thanks,
Bill

I'll take some today,

but can the gauges backlight be lit all the time whenever the boat is running, or should I run the backlight from a switch ?

how do you guys have them setup ??

Thanks,

Mine are hooked up to the navigation light switch , no sense having them lit all the time, only at night

I have a "panel" switch that turns all the backlights on.

Yeah, that would be the best way to do it if you have a switch panel. My boat as only two switch, NAV/Anchor and BILGE

Thanks for getting back to me,
what a day,it rained off and on all day long...
I worked under the tarp/cover with my dewalt 18 volt light. I have all 3 gauges done {Tach,fuel,volt} these are the Faria Chesapeake series, and the tach has the hour meter !!

I hooked them up with the light running when the motor is on  :oops:  {I hope I didn't make a big mistake here}, my local shop guru at Post Marine said it's no big deal,that the lights won't drain the batts,and won't burn out for a long time,said his have been like that for a few years !

the boat may be at the slip by 5pm Friday !!, I can still wire up the stereo,and reconnect the VHF from the slip !

we need to start breaking in the motor the right way,we made the choice of mixing the oil/fuel for our 2-stroke merc.
the pump hose seems to fail often on these motors.

We also put on some decals !!!, a set of the Classic Aquasport decals,as well as a custom set that a partner had purchased !

if it doesn't rain on Friday, I'll get some pics even though we haven't been able to powerwash it yet.

Thanks again !!

the boat will get wet on Saturday for sure !

I need to wire in the Stereo, and mount the speakers {I need to cut one more hole for my speakers}as well as wire the 2 LED speader lights into the switch panel !.

Can't wait to get it in the Water  :D

Also, forgot to add that one of my partners had a shop make 2 braces going from the top bolt of each side of the jackplate bolted down through the floor,and he put solid rough 2 1/2"x6" pine under the floor for the bolts to be well secured !

it's now rock solid ! :D , and only cost $150.00

I seem to have a problem with my new bilge setup  :(
I'm running a Rule 2k gold pump,a rule 41 "3-way helm switch",and a waterwitch 101 .

when in auto mode, the pump does not turn off  :?
not sure what the problem is, but when I installed it, I went through it and spoke with both waterwitch and Rule  before hooking it up, so I'm certain I did it right.

I've tried relocating the waterwitch sensor,wiping it with a cloth, but it will not turn off in auto mode ?

any ideas ?

thanks,
Bill

Pretty straight-forward wiring - "auto" to one side of the waterwitch, "manual" to the other side of the waterwitch which should also be connected to the pump brown wire.
Maybe the 41 switch is shorted internally between the auto and manual - check with a meter - or the waterwitch is defective.

Rick,
I seem to have found the problem :oops:  :lol: , I had the manual/auto wires reversed on the back of the
Rule 41 3-way helm switch, it is working great now !!

Well...,

It looks like me an ONE of my 2 partners in this boat will go into another partnership-boat !
Were purchasing a '93 Grady Gulfstream {unpowered} , I was on this boat not long agao, and I was like WOW !

I personally did so much on the Family Fisherman,originally,I was led to believe that this boat only needed a simple motor rebuild by the guy that was supposed to be our expert boatman in the partnership  :lol:  {don't know why I'm laughing}
we needed fuse boxes,switch pannels,Gauges,ALL new wire,harnesses,lights {ALL LED},new custom below deck fuel tank and new hoses, etc etc.... but the partner that will not be appart of the Grady is an idiot {plain and simple}.
He has broken/ruined so many items it isn't funny... :x ,and doesn't care that it's broken {won't replace and said not necessarey} I'ts gotten so bad, I haven't been on the boat in a while... {Except to check hours on motor or to fix whats been broken}.

Well, we will use the boat for the end of the season, then sell it, and hopefully, use the funds and add something to it for a set of matched 150 Yamis for the Grady ! {99% sure were taking the Grady} I'll be very very unhappy if we do not take the grady as me and my solid partner need to move forward and we both have outgrown the 22.2 FF

The Gulfstream is everything I want/need in a boat  :bounce:  , it is 9.3' wide at it's midships !! very very stable boat for a 23.? boat. !
It comes with a Hardtop as well as a bow-pulpit/windless,fishfinder/gps,stereo.

Wish the 2 of us luck as we need it !!!!
