Washdown for 170
« on: January 31, 2009, 06:22:03 PM »
Does anydoby hava a washdown pump on a 170 or 175?
I would like to install one in mine.  I´m looking at the ITT/Jabsco ParMax pumps.  How should it be installed so that it gets water at all times (running, trolling, at rest)?  Is it always required to have a clamshell thru-hull on the bottom of the boat?
I'm thinking that the pump will be installed inside the console.
I would like some details about the installations others on this forums have performed, specially if it is on the same model boat.

Don't you already have a water feed coming over the transom for your livewell?  You could tap into that and use some 1" or 3/4" hose and run it up the trough (does your year boat have one of those?) to the console and put a Johnson washdown pump in.  These babies kick butt - like 5 gal/min and will shoot 25-30 ft (in case you want to wash your buddy's boat down for him   )

Miguel,

The clamshell is not a must, but it is the way you need to go.  I tried using the livewell pickup on my CCP but as soon as you get moving it won't suck water in.  The clamshell pickup will always be in the water and works great!  When I get home today, I will be glad to get a picture of my washdown system.  Mine is very simple but works great :)

I've yet to use the washdown on my 230 while running.  I doubt I would use it while doing anything but trolling or at idle, especially if I had one in my 170. (I use a bucket in the 170)
The reason I bring this up is the last thing I want to do is punch a hole in the hull of my boat, unless I absolutely have to.

Agreed that I rather not punch any holes in the bottom.  I´ll try and use my transom pickup tube and see how it works.

I might want to add that my wash down system also doubles as a livewell pump to my portable livewell.  You don't need to be so scared about drilling holes in the bottom.  Seal it with 5200 and you will never have any worries

If you want to make the trip to North Carolina come on    Maybe we could even have an Aquasport gathering around Morehead City

All joking aside, I am not crazy about putting holes in the bottom of the boat either, but the clam shell pickup is small and easy to install.  Sealed mine with 5200 and she is as watertight as a Navy vessel :salut:
