new 170 intro
« on: January 23, 2009, 10:47:54 PM »
Hey everyone.

Been lurking here since I bought my '79 170. I've already gotten a ton of info here.. this place is great! I'm not sure how far into a resto I wanna go just now, I'm kinda just making sure it's as seaworthy as possibly, and giving it some personal touches. I just made a stainless bait station, with two cutting boards, and I'm making some rod balancers that'll mount off it

I live in Northern California, and fish striper and sturgeon in the San Francisco bay area, with an occasional local river trip when there's enough water.

anyways, thanks everyone for sharing your tips and advice!

Welcome aboard Josh  :!:  :!:
Looks like she's in great shape.  You'll find a lot of support from the 170/175 crowd here.

OK, I'll show my ignorance.
What is a Step-N-Trim :?

I see the "tab" on the starboard side but it appears to be fixed. (no hydraulics).

So this is what a Step-N-Trim is.  Hmm, seems like they are out of business.  Have you considered Smart Tabs as a low cost alternative.  They work excellently.

Josh,
If you're not in a real hurry, I may be able to get a set for your 170 cheap.  Would all composite be good for you?  Let me know.

I installed Bennett M-80s on my 170 and absolutely LOVE THEM!!!!.  The 170 feels like a bigger boat with them.
