I just picked up a 1978 22-2. How do I tell if it is a ccp? And anyone did anything for more storage space?

The CCP does not have a casting deck in the front area of the boat, so you have high gunwales all the way around (It may have a big storage box just in front of the console also),

whereas an Osprey does have a casting deck with storage built in - the gunwales are shorter on the Osprey too

If it's a CCP, you've got the 2-section coffin.  And there is a stowage area under the deck in front of the coffin - but it may not have a hatch!  This was an option on the CCP, but sometimes the owner didn't pay for the option, so they just did not put the hatch in.  But the locker underneath was still there... 

The area under the center of the deck from the console forward is mostly open.  Later CCPs got rid of the coffin and put a fishbox in there.  I cut the deck on the outside of the stringers, took the foam out, and put hatches, stowage and rod lockers in there.  You can see that project here:  http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=5395.msg74275#msg74275

Just picked this baby up today. 91 - 250 CCP. Needs some serious TLC. Deck is soft and the tank and stringers will have taken care of. Well, that will be the starting point, I guess.

Nice - congrats!! As for the deck being soft, it could just be that you are stepping in spaces not supported by the stringers and the floor feels soft or springy. The stringers are massive in that boat, all fiberglass filled with foam. I think I would wait until you dig in to replace the fuel tank, to check out the stringers.

Uploading them into your "member gallery" is better for viewing and the system takes whatever size you upload and resizes it to the best size.
Spend a few minutes to absorb the instructions. It's really easy. Remember if using a phone to take pics, to hold the phone horizontal with the lens to the left.

Thanks, exactly what you described does feel a bit springy. I'll make sure to take some time to go over the photo instructions. The story I got on the tank above the deck was it was an addition to the main tank. The PO was selling the boat for a relative whose husband had passed away.

Is the Coast Guard Capacity plate on it and can it be read? If so, a pic of the plate would be nice.

I'm curious where this hull was assembled. One would guess Bradenton/Sarasota but.....

From what I read on previous post here I thought they stopped making the CCP in 1990. J.D. power only list up to the 230 Osprey for 1991. Unfortunately, the capacity plate is worn out as you can see. I did provide the serial number. Not sure if the H in the serial number was the plant location (Hialeah) or not. My old Harley had the plant letters in the serial number. I have the fish box in deck vs the coffin. I prefer the in-deck personally.

The mystery lies as to where. It looks like a Genmar hull.

Learn something new every time I log in here. Thanks, I didn't know that. I just remember the old bike had the plant location in the serial number. Going to eventually put my 97- 225 Exp up for sale after I get everything cleaned up. Love the Explorer but I go out on my own a lot and the CCP will be easier for me to keep up with. I plan on keeping my 19-6 and CCP to work on. Thanks again

Mine was made in Bradenton.

I always thought the last year of production in Hialeah was 1989. I chased rumors that in 1990, remaining inventory was cobbled together at another site prior to ending up in the Wellcraft plant. Bonita Springs was one and North Carolina another.

DanB's hull color, striping and silver Aqua decal are correct for the 1991 model line coming out of Bradenton but the console is an old school CCP as is the bow rail. It appears they used an I/O hull and added the bracket, again not unique but rare.

I wish the CG plate had been readable.

Love these old Aquasport boats !  Originally owned my cousin's hand me down 1972 19-6 model that needed repower since the 72 100 hp johnson eventually died.  Ran well with a 77 115 on it.  I think 38mph.
A few years back I picked up a clean 1982 200CCP model with the original coffin box but it's been sitting a few years trying to convince my son it's a decent boat.  He seems to think they are extremely wet boats and you get beat to death.  Never been in one but he just found a Mariner 200 to put on it since the original 200 merc that came on it was bad.  Just wondering what kind of speeds to expect and how these handle Barnegat bay and offshore not too far ?
