new toy
« on: October 29, 2008, 08:22:47 PM »
Great Site!!! This is my first post here. Thought that I would share my new toy, i forgot to take pictures before the first bath.  This 200 CCP was given to me by a friend last week who used the boat maybe 8-10 times over the past 15 years (was in the water all this time too). I did have to buy the trailer though. It is a 1978  with a 1981 Johnson 175.  The boat was blackish and the teak was grey.  Motor wouldn't turn, start, or tilt.  All electrical had issues.  Now one week into the project the carbs are rebulit along with the starter, the tilt and all electical works, motor runs perfect(after a new solenoid, plugs, etc..) and 7/8 of the teak is blasted, sanded and oiled. Not bad for working 50 hrs a week and having a 8wk old son IMO.  Anyways here is a picture from the first day and I plan on doing a test run on Sunday.

Looks great!  You're gonna like it...and a 'gift'...can't beat that.

Let's see some interior shots when you have a chance.

You're definitely ready to start that 8-week-old sons life right.  Have fun!

Thanks for the comments. I will try to take some more photos tonight.  Finished rebuilding and oiling the lower console vented hatch last nite.

Here are some of the interior shots that I took today.  Does anyone have a picture showing what the original setup was in the two fore cubbys?  Thanks for looking.

It sounds like you did a fair amount of clean up...it looks very good.  The teak gunwale planks give the hull a classy look,  the hawse pipes are a definite plus, the console appears clean (not drilled full of holes) and it came with the coffin box.  Nice.

Any sign of water intrusion from being slipped?  What's under the teak hatches at the transom...live well, storage?  Is that teak trim around the base of the console?

There's got to be someone here with photos of the original set-up for the forward storage areas on a 200 CCP of that vintage.  Could the portside shown in the photos be the original?

love2fish is right...your buddy's gonna want that baby back.  How did the test run go?

Did some more work to the teak this weekend and and washed the inside with softscrub w/bleach twice. The two areas on either side of the stern are small storage boxes with the battery under the starboard side.

As far as water intrusion, there are no visible signs of water inside the bilge (when i pulled the boat out, unscrewed the plug and the was no water).  There are tons of blisters, mostly micro, but I am going to wait and let most of them dry out before I decide wether to get the dremel out and start a new bottom.

There is teak at the base of the console.  From the adds that I have found here on the website, it looks like I have a different console than the other ones,  were the boats offeered with different consoles?

I think the portside is the original set up for the forward storage areas, but wanted to be sure before I start cutting some teak pieces.

Thank you to everyone for the comments and taking a look at my new toy.  I welcome all comments and suggestions.  Thanks again

I

I was not able to take the boat out for a test run, we are having problems with water here at Lake Lanier.  This only one public ramp that is still open and usable and the other option is to go to the only marina that has a ramp with water and they want $8 a foot to use the ramp (that is crazy).

Finally was able to take the new toy out for a test run on Saturday.  FINALLY.  Great boat, GPS stated we were running 41.2 topspeed in the flat water.  Like I have read on the site, the ride can be a little wet in the chop though.  The breeze was 18-20mph with gust to 28mph, allowing for some decent chop in the gut of the lake 2-2.5 chop with a few larger.  I forsee many a great trips in this boat, and for the price, still can't believe that this has all come about.

Nice 200CCP!  The 200 is a nice size - big enough for real water, yet small enough to tow without a monster truck and easy to handle.

The stowage areas in the bow are stock - put there to hold PFDs, line, or whatever.  I converted one side to rod holders on my 22-2CCP:

Good luck and welcome to the site!

That's exactly how I felt the first time I took my Aquasport out, though it was almost a year in the making...

Took the boat back out today for some fishing and came up empty handed.  On the way back to the ramp, went to turn to port and kept on running straight.  Needless to say, steering system failed either in the gearbox or the cable.  Any suggestions for replacements; stardard or rack/pinion ( would love hydraulic but even at my dealer cost, it is little too much right now.  Here is a shot of the slow ride in.
