Game 5 1/2 ?
« on: October 28, 2008, 07:59:11 AM »
I know a lot of you are from the Tampa St. Pete / Bradenton area.  Are you Rays fans.  I woke this AM. to several inches of Snow!  I don't think the Phillys will be back in Tampa this year!
Had my '72 170 to Barnegat inlet NJ last weekend and my steering cable froze up.  I disconnected the cable, lashed a canoe paddle to the engine like a tiller and trolled "old school" for a while.  It worked so well I took her out the next day the same way.  I just replaced the cable and it's more responsive than it's been since I've owned the boat.  I'd like to take her back to NJ for stripers once in Nov.  I'm not a fan of an early winter... it complicates fishing...and baseball.   Go Philly's.

That must have turned some heads

Go Rays.

Glad the paddle got you through...

I'm glad the game got tied befor being suspended.  Having the Ump. call the game would have been a terrible way to end the series.  Who knows,  we may go back to Tampa.  Stay tuned as the plot thickens.  I have aunts and uncles and two cousins and their families that live on the Manatee river across from De soto park.  They are all Rays fans.  My cousin Tony was an usher at game two.  Go Phillys.

fishon,
I used to live on Manatee Ave. W, about a mile from DeSoto Park.  Me and my buddies used to wade the river from that park.  Awesome fishing, especially Permit and Reds.  Snook big time when the water got cooler, like now.

Miss it, as here in Pasco County, there is no place to wade, the best way to fish shallow water.  Oh, well, what are you going to do.

Notice that the game hasn't showed up on my ESPN MLB scoreboard yet.  Guess I should check Philly's weather.

Game over!  I've gotten phone calls from the FL faction of the family.  Seabob,  Ive enjoyed reading some of your threads. (list to port  etc.) Great to have your insights here at classic Aquasport.  I have a '72 170 with the classic crack along the top of the transom.  It's a beautiful boat.  I love to look at her sweeping sheer.  I need a windshield, bilge pump   and nav. light.  I've found web sites for each.  The boat was repowered once and the new motor bracket coveres the two scuppers so the deck isn't self bailing.  I've thought about  two bilge pumps.  One below the deck and one in the little basin at the scuppers.

#$%!

My 170's scuppers are in the same situation.  Seems the engine brackets were thinner back then.  I made a portable bilge pump that I carry and wire it to the battery if I'm leaving the boat unattended.

Fishon,
Congrats!  The Phillies deserve their championship.  My hat is off to them.

Thanks.  That was a much better way to win  the series.  They had a mock election at my sons high school today and Chase Utley and Cole Hamels got as many write in votes as either other candidate.  I'm glad students still know how to put the "mock" in  mock elections.
I'm going to take out the 170 next Tues or Wed. to try to work out a mechanical problem.  After a couple minutes at high speed my rpm's drop off considerably  although it still runs smoothly  and idles fine.  I replaced the fuel filter thinking it might be limiting flow.  It may be a pin hole leak in the pump diaphram  but I think that would wet foul a plug and make it run ruff.  May be the coil is heating up and crapping out.  Any thoughts.

Haha I like the tiller lashed to the motor thing. If it was me, I would have been using my gaff hook with some duct tape.

I actually got stuck out to sea with a dead battery, yeah I kinda got too comfortable up at the front and took a quick snooze, forgetting that I left the stereo on mute, not off. I woke up a couple hours later and the battery was dead. I had to hand start  by wrapping some string around the flywheel and pulling with all my might. It scared the crap outta me cause It only took a quick tug and she was on, and of course the engine was much louder with the cover off...

anyways, forget my pointless ranting, just sharing my fun boating experiences.
