Trading in my 22-2 for a mako

Guys I am in a tough spot right now. The previous owner has offered to trade my 22-2 for his Mako, which he says is in amazing shape. I am not going to let this fall through without great consideration. He tells me that it is a Classic Mako, about the same size as mine. I know I will still receive some of you guys' support over on CM if I do cross over. I am not making a decision until I drive both of them side by side. Overall though, what do you guys think? old aquasport or old mako?
I think he took my 22-2 out after it was fixed and he probably realized why I fell in love with it

How would he do that without you knowing?

Same size... both older... even trade? What am I missing?
What is the upside for you?
I would have to have some kind of
sweetner
just to swap boats.
You need to be able to walk away knowing you got the best part of the deal.

He took out my 22-2 because I gave it to him to fix the hull up and he launched it back in the water again. According to his description of the mako, it is really nice and in mint shape. It also may come with a newer more reliable engine on it. I am not letting this deal fly unless I know I end up with the better boat. I have spent countless hours re-wiring and cleaning my 22-2 and Im not ready to let it go to waste.
However, If I am being offered a mako 211cc in great shape and it has a T-top and a nice motor, I am going to take the better boat. The 22-2 is unique though, and I refuse to let go of her until I know it will be a better choice. I am checking her out on friday and then I will post pictures and maybe you guys can help with the decision

Ok I couldnt resist! I drove by and snapped a picture. It looks like it needs new bottom paint
update: heres a picture
hull looks 100% intact and in good shape. I'm not sure yet, I havnt walked around it yet so this weeekend will tell
There was no T-top, as I had hoped, but it looks nice. Honestly, I just wanted a boat, and I just so happened to fall upon a legendary 22-2. The mako seems like it would look a lot nicer if I got a T-top for it

Did you originally want a Mako instead of your 22-2? Your not making your reasons for concidering the trade clear other than the Mako has a newer motor and a T top, which I would think your motor could be tuned-up to run as well (or better than if does now) and you could always add a T-top to yours.
It seems like the original owner would have alternative reasons as to offering you a "similar" boat with a better motor and T-top straight up...
22-2's in good shape are hard to come by and doing the work on them (as you already know and I'm figuring out) takes a considerable amount of time/money so make sure you're sure before you make a deal.

The previous owner has become a close friend of our family, and thus he is perfectly willing to give away the nicer boat to me. Also, he owns many nicer bigger and newer boats than the mako, so it is not too significant to him.
However, I am not sure which boat is nicer yet. As for what I could tell with the mako, a new gelcoat could have her looking like new. I saw no physical problems with the hull, but the bottom paint is quite faded, an easy fix. I want to be able to see the inside of the boat, which I will do tomorrow. In all honesty, I don't want to go through re-wiring and installing new stereo, engine, etc so that drives me towards keeping the 22-2
Factors that are driving me towards getting the Mako: The gelcoat still has some shine to it, The front looks like it sits much higher off the water, so there would probably be less getting wet, it would look perfect with a T-top, front railings are intact and sturdy, the hull is physically in great shape. I had a crack or two and some rough spots in my aquasport, whos to say there arent more. The bottom paint is worn off enough on the mako to show the hull being in flawless shape. Last but not least, the mako looks more hydrodynamic and seems more sleek than the aquasport, giving it less of what I call "the old fisherman" look. The gunwales look much higher and it overall looks like it is in better shape. IF I simply painted the bottom and put 'er in, it would look like a new mako.
As for engine, either way I will probably end up with my evinrude 140, we would probably move it over to the mako with us.
A problem I never mentioned about my 22-2, is that there are many many cracks and flaking fiberglass all along the cap. Including one area in the front with a massive 6 inch dent/crack where it looks as though somebody ran her under a dock or something. The fact that the Mako's hull and cap are in mint condition makes me consider it

KEEP THE AQUASPORT!!!
but really it depends on what you want to do with the boat. If you want to go offshore, the mako would probably be a better choice

That looks like a 73-78 mako 23 (I would have to see the transom and inside). I used to have one with twin 115's. The thing was a tank, would eat right through the waves. Used more gas due to the weight, but could also go in skinny water. My buddy has one with a closed in transom, tower, porta and 200 etec and it's bad ass.
But then again, so is your 22-2 model. I think down here, your 22-2 model is more popular, but don't know about up there.
Oh yeah, Go Rays!
