on the subject of power, how does yours perform with the 200?  What do you feel is minimum acceptable power?

It performs very well with the 200.  Top speed is 40+ when loaded lightly 39/40 when fully loaded.
It came with a 185 (that was an odd hp) and ran well with that. If the boat was new and sports trim tabs, I'd bet a modern 150 would move it along quite well also.
Remember, these hulls were light at birth but like us Captains, they gain weight with age. The foam flotation attracts and holds water. Members on this Forum undertaking rebuilds often report this. Add to that all the goodies we tend to slap on plus the Captain and aging crew's weight gains and you see where a few extra ponies are needed to achieve the same performance.

Fuel economy was never more important than it is right now and it will only get worse, so I try to carry the bare minimum when I go out. I rarely run at WOT and then only for short periods on the way in. I meter my fuel and live with getting to the "secret spot" a few minutes later.

The first step to increased fuel economy is to reduce weight. Second is to reduce drag. When new, the AQ did this very well. It's just a matter of choice.

Hntrss,
I just did a totally unscientific, triple snowblind, grapefruit to kiwi comparison of the infamous 222CCP and some other boating brands currently being built.

The CCP had a hull weight of about 2200lbs.
An 08 HydraSport 22"CC is about 2800lbs.
An 08 Mako 212CC is about 3100lbs.
An 08 Proline 20'CC about 2600lbs and the 23'CC is a whopping 3540lbs.

Again, very unscientific but to me, eye opening.

Point is :?:
At birth the old gal was lean and rough riding. She ages well but still rides rough. Why, because she was built light.

So check around and I think you will find a lot of older craft sporting "smaller than what you would think" power on the stern.

Capt Bob,

I plan on keeping the boat basically the way it is.  Ordered a new tank yesterday, going to install that, rewire the entire boat and maybe addbelow deck fish storage, using epoxy and corecell foam.
This will not add much weight, but it will allow me access to the forward part of the stringers AND maybe I will be able to do somthing about the soft spot ahead of the coffin. I figure that if I build the fish box and loose the coffin, the job is basically a wash- weight wise.  It is a very nice little project, and basically enjoyable.

Hntrss,

Good luck with that and post some pics of your project.
I've had my CCP since 1996 and with the way things are right now, it may be with me for another 12 years. They're sleek, fast and age well.
You have a piece of early (well in name) South Florida boating history.
Enjoy. :D
