New member & '95 175 fuel tank question

Greetings,

New guy here, this is a great resource! Especially given that Aquasport is no more...

I inherited my dad's 1995 175 Osprey. She's got a '96 model Johnson 88 that looks like it fell out of the ugly tree, but runs strong (A friend and I replaced the trim motor last month, cost me a weekend of scalloping). Great boat for the St. Marks, FL area, handles chop well but can still get me in the shallows.

Anyway, to my question- I read an article in BoatUS about ethanol blended fuels causing fiberglass fuel tanks to degrade, causing engine problems and worse, necessitating a tank replacement (very costly in the case I was reading about, involving a lawsuit). From what I have gathered here, it seems that Aquasport tanks are largely aluminum. Is this true for the 1995 175?

While I'm here, are there any specific pitfalls, problems, etc for this model I should be aware of?

The worst thing about the 170 series is that they are owned by a very rowdy bunch of sailors while the CCPs tend to draw the more refined crowd

You've run aground on the best collection of information available concerning Aquasports. If you can't find what you're looking for, chances are it doesn't exist.

Members with "newer" models like yours will jump in so take some time, there's a lot to absorb. As far as I know, all the Aquas used aluminum tanks.

I would safely bet that a 1995 didnt have a fiberglass fuel tank installed. Even my '73 is alluminum. Best not to assume because it is definately a critical issue if you have a fiberglass tank. Otherwise, welcome aboard!

The tank on my 1995 175 is polyethylene.  There should be a deck plate between the console and helm seat to access the fuel valve and fuel  level sender.  You can check the tank construction there, but I'm guessing it's polyethylene.  No worries

I have a 1999 175 and my tank appears to be Aluminum, as was my 1990.

Poly tank.  No ifs, ands, or buts.  At that time, we installed poly tanks up to the 225 Explorer/Osprey.  The 245/250s got aluminum.
