1970/2008 22'S FLATBACK WITH A 4 STROKE SUZUKI 175HP

Before I finished our 22'2 I was looking for info on how much power is needed to push a 1970 Flatback. We went with a 2008 Suzuki 4 stroke. It is on a porta bracket. Our boat will do 43 mph top end at 5900 rpm's and 25 mph at 3800-4000 rpm's. We are very happy with the performance. It has averaged 3-3.5 mpg depending on speed/cargo/people etc. Hope this helps those looking for answers on powering the Flatback.

My '73 22-2 with a Hialeah hull has an old '87 140hp Evinrude V4. At WOT she can push the boat 43 at 6000rpm. Since the engines old and I can settle with 35, I dont have her opened up all the time. Your boat is probably much heavier though, mine is pretty bare-bones. Trust me though, 43 in a 22-2 is quite an exhilarating ride, just watch out for big waves, they can give you a thump or two

Should be plenty on a flatback. My buddies 73 222 semi-v with a 115 tower of power mercury did 38mph. Thats with a 30 year old motor.

Yea 115hp is definately enough power, but I bet that the yamaha four stroke is way way much heavier than the tower of power or any other two-stroke, so it may not be as fast. I, however, will be repowering with a Spankin' new 115 E-tec once my ol' V4 dies out on me

We are looking at the Suzuki DF300 for a repower on our 87 250ccp. Also looking at the Porta bracket. How was the install of the Porta bracket and are you still happy with performance of your Suzuki?
Thanks
