We've been off line for a little while..busy workin'.  The main thing we've learned thus far is to never ever try to glass in mid-May in New England, especially at night!  The bugs see the light, "huff" the fumes and then fall into the resin like a summer down pour!

On that note.  We finished putting the floor, casting deck and boxes in.  Though I trusted myself to cut the big stuff, e.g. the above, I just didn't have it in me to attempt home made hatches, so they're on order.

We'll start gel coating next week, although we've got to figure out this bug thing first!  Then we'll get serious about the outside of the boat!   This may actually hit the water this summer (keeping our fingers crossed!)

Here's our progress to date:

Deck in:

Casting deck frame.

Casting deck bulkheads and side pockets foamed

Casting deck (almost) complete (need hatches)

Deck complete, looking forward.

Deck complete, looking aft.

Preping for dive step repair (still waiting on new hinges)

Well the boat still hasn't hit the water, but we're determined to get her in the water for a few test runs before the winter hits.

We've had a hard June & July on the farm, so the critters took priority.  We finished up a few things on the boat this month; put the console and leaning post in, prepped the bottom and Brien then primed the sides and gunnels.  We found a great guy to paint her for us; she arrived Sunday night looking beautiful!    This week we'll try to get the bottom painted and the new rub rail put on and install the dive step....then I'm praying that my brother comes up to help with all the rewiring.

Man, I am sorry I missed this question earlier.    Looks like you are well beyond the process I used.  You don't want to be on your back spreading thickened epoxy.

MD

BTW  She is looking really nice.  Great job on the restoration.

No problem MD.

More progress.  Boy, we might have this ready in time to winterize her!      We put the engine on mid-week and painted the bottom this weekend and installed the new rub rail.

In response to Marcq.  A friend offered to paint the boat for us.  He didn't have Alwgrip or Interlux, but he used a two part polyurethane paint (Glasurit) that is identical.  It turns out that "Fighting Lady Yellow" is the same as 1966 Cadillac "Cape Ivory".  Somewhat fitting as she's a 1966 also!

9 months later.....and she's finally hit the water.  The weather report said it mights snow later this week, so we put the little things aside and finally launched her........

I'm trying to post more photo's, but the site says the pixels are too high.

We still have some small things to finish up, such as dressing up everything under the console and gunnels, install the radio's, putting the swim step on and putting the non-skid on the the floor.  That can all wait until the spring.

Thanks!  My son is so proud of the boat!  I guess I'll be trailering he and his friends to the Sound (Long Island or Nantucket) every weekend next year!  I'll be counting the days until he gets his drivers license (nervously though!)!

I made the photo's smaller, so the site would take them....

Here's the new Captain, Brien, at the helm, and the boat under way.  We're pleasantly surprised that the boat sits higher in the water after the rebuild!  We knew she was water logged before, but we beefed the stringers, foam and flooring up so much, we figured she'd weigh much more.  And even though it's the same engine and steering mechanism, it handles much better also!
