Proud new owners
« on: July 30, 2008, 09:27:48 PM »
Hello,
We are the proud new owners of an '84 270 Express. we were so excited to find this gem in Jupiter FL. The boat is in really good shape, very well taken care of. Repowered with twin 175 evinrudes in 2000. The situation is, it appears she might be taking on some water, possibly via a thru-hull hole. any thoughts or ideas?

Welcome aboard NoCurfew  :!:  :!:
Sounds like you found a nice BIG boat.  8)
Have you tracked down how many below-water thru-hulls you have?
Do you keep her in the water? If so, it's tough to look under her to see how many there is.  Where are your bilge pump exhausts? Deck drains? Fishbox or bait/livewell exhausts?

My Explorer is a '92 and the only below-water thru-hull it has is a raw water washdown and that had a ball cock on it.  I also have 2 baitwell drains at the waterline.  My bilge pump exhausts are about a foot above the waterline. Hopefully you have access plates around any above or below water thru-hull that you can shine a flashlight through to see what is happening.

Again, welcome aboard.

Is it salt or fresh water?  Has it rained recently?  If it's fresh, you could also be getting water in through the deck if the seam caulk has cracked or whatever.  If it's salt, it's coming through the hull.

If you can't get yer haid in to see where it might be leaking, use a small digital camera through any hole it will fit and take pics in all directions.  Amazing what you can find and see....

Good luck and welcome!

We are actually driving south right now, to pick up a trailer for the boat. the boat was kept on a lift and is in dry storage right now.  We only had one weekend together after we bought the boat. we had to head home without our new pride and joy. So, this weekend it is our intention to find the source and fix it.  The water is definitely salt. There are several holes to check out as Rick mentioned. I will let you know the verdict after the weekend. Thanks for the insight.

 :)

Hey, that's a great idea!! Was trying to fit my head trough the bilge access hatch to see what it looked like under there but my head's too big   imagine me getting stuck
should be a lot easier with the camera :)

Its been a while..we got No Curfew home and we found he water source..we could not figure out why the water was hot. well..the previous owner had some guage work done. evidently the mechanic unhooked the hoses that ran from the engines to the pressure guages and the hoses were just sitting in the hull spewing hot water. Funny huh? That was a cheap and easy fix... you gotta love that.

I guess you are out of hot water now...

"evidently the mechanic unhooked the hoses that ran from the engines to the pressure guages and the hoses were just sitting in the hull spewing hot water"

Maybe "mechanic" should be in quotes...

Good to hear you found the problem with an easy fix!  Now get her out and see ya on the water!

What OS are you running?  I have a 64bit PC and running Vista Home 64bit.  I tried when I first got the PC to log into the ClassicAquasport site using 64bit IE to no avail.  Had to use the 32bit version of IE.  But the photo gallery obviously doesn't like the 32bit version either.
Weird.

I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit as well. My 64 bit version of Internet explorer seemed to have disapeared so I am just using the 32 bit  and also Google chrome. Plus, Adobe flash player isnt 64 bit compatible so I just use the 32 bit version anyways
