I have been lurking for over a year now as I have always been a fan of the Aquasport lines.  There are few of us in Texas that have experienced the Aquasport, but I was sold after several fishing trips in FL.  What sold me was the versatile hull that can be on the flats one moment and offshore the next.

I pulled the trigger in February on a 1987 170 Osprey.  The engine is an Evinrude 88 Special.  Rather than repainting it the original navy blue, the sole owner (past colleague) picked up a spray can of royal blue paint.  I get plenty of looks down here in south Texas.

I have a series of projects planned for her during the fall/winter, but right now I just want to get a better feel for how she operates.

Howdy, partner.  Welcome to the 170 owner´s club.
Nice boat you have there.
So you are in Corpus, right?  I went graduate school in UT Austin and had the opportunity to visit Corpus Christi.  Nice place.  First thing that called my attention when I got there was the similarity between the steel bridge on the harbor and the one we have here in Panama over the Canal.  Google "Bridge of the Americas + panama" and you'll see.  At that time (about 12 yrs ago) it was the only fixed link between north and south America.

The large number of 170 owners will be a great resource.  In my off time I search through the rebuild section getting ideas.

I have to agree with you on the Red.  I'm not sure if I'll keep the exact same paint job as I plan to reapply the fall/winter.  There are two colors of bottom paint as the previous owner could only fit so far under the trailer to apply the red.

I like your grab rail.  Is that off a Mako?  I'm in the process of replacing the AQ center console with something that I can stand on along with a taller grab rail.

If you're talking about the windshield and the rails on it, it was the one that was on the boat when I bought her in '88.  Can't know for sure if it's original or not, haven't found documents showing '71 170s. Could be though since it fits the console perfectly (unless the console is also not original).  The '72s all had a different console with the type of windshield/grabrail that you have.

I stand on the seat to get higher up and the top rail is perfect for that.
