1992 23' Aquasport Explorer W/A Transom issues
« on: June 16, 2008, 04:17:31 PM »
I'm in need of some advise. Recently purchased a 1992 23' aquasport Explorer W/A. The transom flexes a litle more than it should & it is bowed out a little where the OB mounts. I don't believe it is serious enough for replacement. What i have seen on a similar boat is a thick aluminum reinforcemment plate underneath the OB mount that wraps over the transom cap down on the fwd side. The OB then bolts thru both surfaces of the plate. the plate was approx 3' wide & 1/4" thick. This seemed to work quite well extending the life of the transom. Has anyone seen this before or have any other ideas?

If it "flexes" and it bowed out I think it is very serious and needs immediate attention

What John said - sounds like a transom job is in your future.  The band-aid with metal just disguises the problem.  You can go core or cast and there are several threads on this site that will lead you through the process.  It may not be as hard to do as you first think...

Sorry for the news, but it's no fun when the motor comes loose at exactly the wrong time.
