Insensitive fellow boaters. What's a boy to do?

Please chime in, this speedometer which is original on my 82 25XF has a triangle marked on the graduated readings at 18 mph. Nobody has replied! Is this some ancient Druid marking or sign from aliens. Please take a shot. See earlier post about speedometer. Thanks, Gary

I vote alien - probably of the Roswell clan.  They are using a special code to influence humans - kind of a subliminal thing.  The triangles are actually shaped like alien heads:  



Constant staring at these triangles causes distortion in thinking and makes you want to spend all your money on boat parts, fishing equipment, gas, and beer.  You also may develop a special fondness for other triangles, like the pink ones shown here:

Hard to top GF's reply, but I heard that the triangle represents one of two things.  The first is the speed at which anything left hanging over the gunnels detaches itself from the boat and goes flying.  This could include fenders, bait boxes, etc...  The second is the speed at which anything inside the boat that is not properly stored detaches itself and goes flying overboard or straight towards your face.  This could include fenders, various articles of clothing, PFD's, your lunch, etc...  This could also include that new hat you just got for Father's Day, which of course you HAVE to go back to get otherwise the wife thinks you really didn't like it after all. :)   The greatest myth is that running at triangle speed works to loosen the straps to bikini tops.  Tried that out and here's what I got -  :eye:

This little triangle thing has really got me thinking.  It's bothering me more than you, now.  You know, many years ago, I dated a girl who owned a 1968 or so Volkswagon Beetle.  That car had a little triangle on the speedometer also.  It also had a semi-automatic two-speed transmission.  When you got up to around 18 miles per hour, you let off the accelerator and jambed the blasted thing into second gear.  No clutch!If your speedometer tops out around 80 mph, you've either got someone who swapped out the guage or has installed a VW transmission down in the bilges.   Good luck and keep your humor!
