I refer to the early center console models as Flatbacks, then the next generation by the numbers, (170, 222, 196) and then the later ones as Ospreys. Really not much difference in a 78 and an 84 222, but it does show the relative dates and models.
It seems the other models - CCP, XF, FF, CCC, SR, TF/TM, etc. go by their own designation - not much difference from one year to the next, until you get to the much later models. A 79 246CCP is really not much different from an 85. Some for XF, FF, and the others.
So I vote we call the originals Flatbacks with the length - 222 Flatback
The next ones with 12 degree hull (72-79) would just be model number - 222
80 on as Ospreys with length - 222 Osprey
