Gunwale Rod Storage - How Deep??
« on: May 30, 2008, 10:10:20 AM »
I have a '78 19-6 FF with gunwale rod storage.  How deep are these things supposed to be?  I have six 5' 6" rods and none of them fit!  Can I make them 'deeper' and put the eyes in the tubes (as opposed to putting the butt or handle in the tube)?

J6,
Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post so help me out.
Are you trying to stow rods by placing the butt end (reel) into the hole and placing the rod in the rack? :o

If so, just reverse procedure and it will work fine.

well each tube measured exactly 17 inches and the 'obstruction' sounded real plasticy.  so i took a 4 foot boat hook and a 3 pound hammer and removed the 'obstruction'.  everything is as should be now.  i think the tubes were capped at the factory to stop foam from entering them and they were never uncapped.  either that or i just messed something up!!
