Pearl Gray 1982 25XF?

Does anyone know if it is possible to get "Pearl Gray" in a spray can? That was the color of my boat in 82. Yes she's faded a bit. But for my small dings(filled, sanded,and primed) no matter what spray can I find in auto, discount, paint stores, and marine stores they all come out to light or dark. A friend says that if I haul the boat down to our local Carquest Auto store here in Bangor, they will scan it and come up with a new brew. Has anyone tried this? Thanks, Gary

Gary I think you're trying to match gelcoat color with paint.  The Aquasports were not painted.

Rick you are right obviously and more savy than me but I still have this question. Is there a "Pearl gray" gelcoat? Do you have any recommendation how to get it to blend? Structurally the repair is smooth as silk, but it is a dark gray color which "dugh", I the idiot attempted to spray/match and then compound out. As a purist with ability I don't doubt you want my head on a stick for AS abuse, yet, any ideas short of fully redoing the gelcoat? The area on both sides are about 8"x12".

Try Mini-Craft of Florida, Inc.  They list a a couple of different Aquasport grey gelcoat colors but only going back to 1990.  At the top of the page listed below, you can send Mini-Craft your hull ID# - they may possibly have the correct mixing code for your hull.

Even if they do have the original mix code, it's likely going to be at least a little different than your hull due to UV fade over the years.  A good wetsand and buff of the entire grey area on your hull can solve a lot of that.  Your best bet may be to send them a small sample chip - if possible.

Gary, I have the obligatory tourist pics of us standing in front of the sign of the 45th parallel souvenir shop just north of Eastport, ME (I think it is just north of that - around there anyway).  Anyway, my GPS said the 45th wasn't even close to their shop
