I know this is an old thread but I found that same glassed over compartment while checking the floor under the coffin box. My boat is a 1980 200 CCP.

Since this thread has been resurrected... FWIW ... My 1982 200CCP also has the "hidden" hatch.

I wonder if my 87 has it??? :?:
How do you find out? its not just cut and pray is it? I have a deck plate in my right front storage compartment from running the fuel lines is there any way to see from there?

If anyone knows this would be great to be resurrected again!!

Not sure what you mean by “right front starage compartment.”  Do you have a photo of your front deck?  I wasn’t aware that the CCP ever had anything but the coffin box, or in later models, an in deck fishbox.

If your 87 hull is a CCP, then yes.

They're referring to the cavernous area below deck on all CCPs. One member made storage parallel to his center console.  Another used the area under the coffin/fish box.

I wasnt aware of it having any extra storage other than the coffin box either but after reading the thread I saw or believe that there is extra compartment storage under the floor in front of the console. I wish there was a picture or guideline to follow before hacking the floor up. Although looking at a repower it might it be a bad idea to get a good look at any saturation. Is there any pictures of this hiden compartment or is it all guess work?

There seems to be some confusion here and sadly, some of it may be my fault.

First, "hidden compartment" is not a fair description. If you have a hatch, forward of the coffin box then you should have a molded in "tray" for storage that is accessed from said hatch. No need to hack up the floor looking for the tray, aka hidden compartment, cause it ain't there.

What is considered a hidden compartment (known UN-politically correct as a Haitian Hatch) is the large area that is available under the deck of a CCP due to its deep hull and large stringers. Members have added deck access to these areas for additional storage.

ok Capt. Bob. That clarifies it up a bit. Mine is an 87 and I have seen some pictures of the usable space on the sidewalls with hatches for extra space and storage is that the space that you are now referring to? Aqua beer has some pictures on his aft side of three hatches in the floor. I was under the impression from other rebuild pictures that the sides had foam in them. Im also assuming no that this is incorrect? If this was a known option prior to installing my tower I would have gone that route and put backing plates under them with the access

The factory placed foam between the outside of the stringers and the hull wall. Members who placed hatches in these spots had to remove a section of foam. Since you haven't rebuilt/replaced your deck, there is foam there you'll need to remove.

Here's an example.

So now that I have removed and replaced the transom, I pulled up the floors and use for a template for the new one and boom!! There she was a giant area under the platform that would be foolish not to use for dive gear, and "wet" gear etc. The area is a huge waist of space and will save me a lot of time instead of building smaller in floor hatches on the console sides I will use that one big one up front and it should be plenty. I will relocate my fuel tank forward another 8 inches and still have 20 inches of clearance to the front deck. Crazy they didn't utilize this for selling purposes back in the day

During my rebuild I cut an additional access hatch in the front of the single storage in my '71 170. I bought a dip net the size of the opening and installed it on rods installed under the opening.  I figured that it being an open net thing I could store my life preservers and anything soft in it.
Seems that if you don't keep the bilge dry the netting will get moldy. Pulling the net outward and laying it on the deck (leaving the hatch open) will allow the Sun to kill the mold, but carrying a spray bottle of 25/75 bleach/water and spraying it on the netting while it is laying on the casting deck is best.

Thats a good Idea rick. I have all my life jackets underneath the tower but love the option for additional storage as being on a smaller boat it seems to be the biggest problem. Drainage will have to be laid out and put in as well as some bilgekote. I will try and post a picture since previously when I was trying to figure this out I couldnt find anything.

The compartment shows up on the marketing materials.  Maybe it was intended to be a dealer installed option.  You know, cut a hole, install a hatch charge a few hundred cor it.
