I have a chance to update my motor, right now I have a 1990 Johnson 150 carb motor with a 25" mid section, runs great(little cold natured), looks good/clean and pushes the boat pretty good.... I have a chance to pick up a 1999 Johnson Faststrike 150 fuel injected motor, 20" mid section with a bad lower unit, motor is also clean/looks good, runs good and great cyl. pressure across the board (hours unknown?).... My question is, are these motors reliable and what kind of gains should I expect going to a Fuel Injected motor? I have found a used lower unit for $600, and my buddy who has this motor just wants my motor in exchange even up, the only thing I would have out of pocket is the lower unit cost and a few x-tras for the swap, I would do the labor myself..... The transome on my boat has been raised about 5- 6" with the resto of the boat, can I go to a 20" mid section with a jackplate?? What do you guys think?????
