floor flex on a 1996 aquasport 20...2 questions
« on: April 29, 2008, 05:19:57 PM »
I just took my new to me aquasport out for a spin. A friend had checked it out for me before I made a long distance purchase a few weeks ago.

As soon as I got aboard I noticed that unlike the 1988 Aquasport 20 I had ridden on many times, the floor had a few spots that flexed under my foot foot (I weigh around 150). These spots were all aft of the center console.

For example to the right and to the left of the center floor acess "hatch" to the bilge pump there is flex. There is also flex in a few floor spots near where you stand to steer r the boat. Only one of the floor flex spots appears to have a small fiberglass crack in it.

Shold I be concerned about the flex. Should I do something about it....what?

Also, does a 1996 have foam in it making it unsinkable. my friend says his 1996 Aquasport 215 does have foam...

I have a 1997 200 Osprey with a 150 hp Evinrude Ocean Pro.  I also have the extreme floor flex that you are talking about.  I hope these spots are not true weak spots, yet just something in the design.  I have owned the boat since '02 and they have existed since then.  They do not appear to have gotten worse so I am not worried.  As far as the foam issue, I was told by the dealer that the boat is foam-filled, but I would like to hear from someone else on both issues.[/b]

Hey Joe (reminds me of a Hendricks song),
You should have a plate somewhere on the boat that states the load and horsepower capacity. It should also state that the craft meets all Coast Guard regs. for the type craft. That would include but not be limited to, Navigation lights, steering, level flotation and something else that escapes me at the moment :(

Anyway, check for that plate.
