Hey guys, any thoughts on what I can do for a backrest for this cooler/box?

It looks like a flip/flop style cooler to me. You should check with west marine I purchased a similar cooler for my boat from them. I am not sure if you could just buy the top. Looking at a new cooler should at least give you an idea of how to build a backrest for the cooler you have. I put the backrest in the forward position and drilled a hole through the rails and the support for the top then inserted a pin to hold it in place. By doing this I can run with the seat leaned and locked in the forward position (like a leaning post) but still be able to use it as a seat. Just my 2 cents.

Cool. Thanks for the idea. It does appear that the teak can fit one of those flip forward/back backrests. I am sure I can fabricate one, but not in teak. Trying to think of what other material might be suitable.

Most of these were made by Todd; I bet they could sell the back to you: Phone: 800 275 2436

Actually that looks like a dock box to me. Most seats aren't that deep front to back.

It is more like a dock box. Its not a cooler per se. Its a rigid fiberlglass box with two drains astern and is bolted to the deck.

That's not a good thing - now you have to figure out how to waterproof those holes.
