I plan on finishing off the inside very nice, painting just the transom, and leaving the topsides and hull the way they are so I can use it as much as possible until winter comes. As soon as its too cold to go out, ill put it up on stands and paint the hull. I will post pictures this weekend once I get the transom torn out.

Ok well I got most of my transom rebuild done while the site was down. Butttt I only have a few pictures from when I started on this computer. I'll post the rest of my progress tomorrow.






Yeah, the transom was rotted  :shock:

Sooo here are the pictures.






Cleaned up.


My two peices cut, 3/4'' douglas fir.


glassing the two halves on our panel saw  :lol:




clamped in place. note the holes drilled every two inches for maximum bondage.


fully glassed into the boat.




painted ice blue gelcoat in the bilge. I plan on painting the topsides of the hull ice blue.


fitting the cap back on



And thats what I have been doing while the sites been down!

WOW!  I really like those clamps.  I had to drill and fill 20 5/16" holes to seat my transom core.  Those clamps would have saved a bunch of time.

Looks like you got a great fit.  Job well done.

A big thank you goes out to Eric at Van Wagoner Boatworks in clearwater for letting me borrow the transom clamps. They are what they use on every boat rebuild they do. They helped TON.

well, going back today to grind on the floor to prep everything to be glassed back together. Once the transom is done, I would like to flip the boat over and work on the hull, but dont know how I can/should flip it. Can anyone chime in and tell me how they flipped theirs?

We have not been on this site for a while. Aqua70 is back in action after sinking in the May 2008 storm here in Jersey. Fixed the 10 in gash in the hull that caused her to go down. The dock broke and gouged a hole in the bottom.Pick up a brand spanking new 90 hp Yamaha to repower her.  We had a 115 Evinrude on her that may have been a little too big and heavy.
    All new electronics and wiring. Will post some pictures soon!

They look like the form clamps we used when constructing beams. The beam clamps came in different sizes depending on the beam thickness. We rented those from a local supplier in Miami.

Just curious, how thick (outside to outside) is your transom?

We glassed the cap back in today! very exciting to see it in place. I'll post pictures tomorrow. Sorry for not very in-depth posts, I hate typing   :lol:

Also, going to pick up a set of lenco's troll n' tabs tomorrow, used from someone in sarasota. Will also post pics of those tomorrow.

I was looking at those in a marine catalogue.  That's what I have in mind for my 22-2 rebuild but I have a set of Bennet tabs installed.  Is there any other brand of, after market, tab mounted, trolling motors?  Not the kind that mount on the engine those defeat the purpose I have in mind.

OK, I cant login at work for some reason? So back on the home computer and heres a few pics.

Glassed in....Hooray!




I got a really good bond in between the cap and transom, I put a really thick layer of glass in between.


And some goodies. Couldnt pass up the price, found them on craigslist, complete for 400. Just need to buy the lenco trim tab switch.
