Hey guys, I'm a newbie to the Aquasport family, I've previously had go fast boats(24 Baja Outlaw, 28 Rabco dual console, 20ft SleekCraft SST), now that I'm growing up (41) and have a 5 & 7 yr old, I want to get a classic boat (love the look) that would also be good to take the kids out on a do a little fishing...Well here's what I picked up, it's a restored 1979 Aquasport Flatback 222, rebuilt front to back, I'll try to post a pic, so you guys can tell me the good and the bad, it's powered by a rebuilt 1990 Johnson 150, and the boat has lots of custom aluminum work. The only thing I'm not crazy about is it's got a 30 gal fuel tank.... Any pro's and con's about these boats would be great, I'm not up to date on these classic boats but with a little help and knowledge from you guys maybe I can learn alot..... Thanks, Greg

Nice looking boat, I dont know that it is a 79' model year or even an aquasport though. If it is an aquasport its not a 79 as they stopped making the flatbacks in early 70's, but even so it looks as if the bottom is more rounded kind of like an older proline, very similar lines however the later 12 degree deadrise aquasports have a distinctive V at the bottom and a flat chine on each outside edge. What does the title say? Any HIN # left? Either way it looks like a great rig and im sure you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Good buy

Yea , definately a nice boat, but 1972 was the end of the flatbacks. I agree with slippery that i could be a proline.

Someone yanked the 2nd helm out? Did you get that as part of the sale? Very nice rig, though. Beautiful. I hope you just got the model year wrong and that it is, in fact, as AS 22-2. I'll let the experts here continue to chew on it, but the lines of bow seem to look like an AS to me....

Aquasport?

I agree with the above - bow has complex curve that does not look like an Aquasport flatback, and stern doen't have a deadrise that looks like the Osprey or post-72 222 model. Don't think it's an Aquasport, but it's got a big Aquasport decal on it, so...
Nice boat though - what is the HIN on the title or hull plate?

I don't know these boats, so you guys fill me in if you can the ID # is ASPD2287M791, could it be a regular 222, year on title says 1979, body says VS and WT-L says 22' 2"...... I traded even up for my 20ft 1988 SleekCraft SST (mod V hull) speedboat with a 1988 Suzuki 200hp..

From 72 to 84 HINs had the following code:
ASP A1234 M78A
The first 3 letters are the manufacturer's identification - ASP was Aquasport before Genmar, but now is assigned to another manufacturer.
The next 5 are for Serial number. Aquasport used a letter to designate the model, then numbers. Yours is D2287.
The next letter is type - homebuilt, manufacturer, etc. M means manufacturer.
The next 2 numbers indicate the year certified - yours is 79
The last letter (yours is probably not a 1 - it's probably an I) denotes the month certified - using the following code with August starting with A, September = B, October = C, etc. Assuming I, your cert. month would be April.
But your boat does not look like a '79 222. Those had a 12 degree deadrise semi-V hull, not a near-flatback like yours. Look at the picture of the back of the 75 model in this ad and you will see the V deadrise at the transom of the 75 - not nearly flat like yours.
http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2737&title=as-22-2-inboard-outboard-broch-1-c1975&cat=557
Look at the underside of the bow on the 66 flatback picture below and you will notice there is no compound flare and no lifting strakes on the bow - those strakes came with the semi-V 12 degree deadrise hull in 1973 as well - and helps the later boat plane more quickly. <!-- s:wink: -->
<!-- s:wink: -->
I agree with some others - your boat looks like a Proline. They basically copied (I know the Proline folks will scream at this...) the Aquasport flatback design - but kept the flatback longer and had a steeper bow angle with a compound curve in the bow. Here's a picture of a 79 Proline 24 foot dual console - look at the hull lines and see what you think...
http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=11486.0
Your HIN is from a 79 Aquasport, but I would guess that someone switched the HIN to make your boat look like an Aquasport. <!-- s:shock: -->
<!-- s:shock: --> You've still got a nice boat - and Proline is still in business, so you can get support if you need it.
See ya on the water!

Here are some more pics, I know the boat is not 24ft, so did Proline make a 22ft one? <!-- w -->

After looking at both the prolines and the aquasports it doesn't look like either one to me. Unless its not a flat back model proline, both the aqua's and the prolines both have less deadrise than these boats, they are almost dead flat. This still has a more rounded bottom. Interesting to see what it really is, its a sweet looking boat, would be another one to keep on the list to look out for.
Whats the measurement on the boat from transom to bow (without pulpit)??
