Motor for 170 Osprey
« on: March 07, 2008, 11:23:38 AM »
I used to have the same exact boat with a 90 HP Johnson 2-stroke.  In my opinion that was/is  the perfect setup for the 170.  She would move as fast as I needed.  I would stick with a 2-stroke for the 170's.  I think most would agree that a 4-stroke is too much weight and would shorten your transom height even further than it already is.

My 86 170 sported a 115hp Johnson. Don't recall the exact weight of that motor but it worked well on the boat. There's a picture in the Photo section under my name.

If I still had that hull, I'd be more inclined to repower with a lower/lighter hp motor (2 stroke). I'm with JD, I think a 90 would be a perfect compromise between power/weight/fuel efficiency.... but boy did that 115 scream
