1990 Osprey 20' fuel tank

I repowered last season with a 115 mercury 4 stroke. After about 15 hours I had serious fuel problems. The boat still has the original 55 gal aluminum gas tank, the problem with the motor seemed to be clogged injectors. They had a white powdery substance plugged up in them.
The shop recommended replacing the fuel tank. I thought they only had problems with fiberglass ones.
Has anyone replaced their 55 gal belly tank before? If so, what can I expect?
Thanks

How old is the tank?
Aluminum tanks can have issues too...

I replaced the aluminum tank on my 84 in 97. It suffered from the same syndrome they all eventually get; strap corrosion. That's 13 years old.
You may be due.

When I bought my 1988 170 I did not know at the time, but when I filled her up I found out my tank was bad. As stated, 99.9% of the corrosion comes from under the straps. At the minimum, I would pull the tank and inspect it.
