RENAMING A BOAT
« on: February 25, 2008, 05:42:32 PM »
Seems like one night when I was downing a few Vodka Tonics I came across a very elaborate renaming ceremony that one of our members submitted. I hunted for 4 hours yesterday and could't find it.
I hear renaming will bring bad luck so if there's a decomissioning ceremony then we need to know about it so we can lift the wammys off our craft. We can't live with the current name it's  a "GAG ME WITH A SPOON " moniker and so the war department has come up with a few choice selections two of which are okay with me.
So, what's the thinking out there? Is it okay to rename or is it a really bad idea?

Thanks in advance Bob Doc

More boats have sunk with their original names than those with names that have been changed.  Often original names have some strange meaning to the original owners, and that interest may not be of interest to later owners.  Here is my formula:

Original buyer poor taste does not equal second owner bad taste.  So change the name if you want - pick something you like.  The only time you have to really be concerned is with a "registered" vessel where the name is specifically listed with the USCG.

See ya on the water (new name)!

John Jones posted that so search on him as an author and after a few more Vodka Tonics, you'll find it :D . He posted one a couple days ago and the one you're remembering has been at least 6 months ago.  The one with every other step is a drink of something.
