Thanks Rick for your direction, a few call to local marinas soon yielded the areas canvas guru, and we're close to being on our way here.
Undoubtedly saving some good bread by having it done up here rather than at the resort prices of Fairhope. Again thanks for your suggestion.
He was promoting a bimini with a windshield but I didn't think the configuration went with the clasic smooth lines of the boat so I simply replace the original convertible top the was on it.
In reading your discussions of when you bought the 23 ftr you somehow determined how many hours your engine had on it, how did you do that ?
And, what's the thinking on running the engine, yea, or nea ?
After I got it home from Fla, I put some Stabil in the tank and have been adding gas periodically to hopefully fill it up. Gas gauge doesn't work but we'll get that when it gets warm enough to rewire it.
In the picture of your boat in the drive you have some kind of rig shrouding the engine, are they ear muffs?
That's all for now I'll work on getting pictures soon. I think that the boat is in the original condition and it still has the original lettering with trademark et.all
One more thing, should I be concerned over chips in the gel coat that go down to where the wood is showing?

I think the canvas guy was on the right track - glad I got an eisenglass windshield.  When the seas get a little snotty the water likes to splash up and over the top of the standard windshield and I have to duck to avoid getting a face full (unfortunately my wife is usually not paying attention  :roll: ). That's when I zip in the windshield.  I think you should consider enclosing the helm area on 3 sides at a minimum.  That way you have some protection when you need it.  I think I remember you saying that it was like this originally? I had my canvas guy guy install a zipper in the front "windshield" that would allow it to zip open and let air in without taking it off.  You can see it in one of the pix on that topic I linked to in the last reply.

 There was a hour meter on the boat when I got her and then I found out it was broken - so I have no clue.

That is a shroud I built to shield the house from the exhaust.

Depends.  Since you mentioned wood, I assume you're talking about the transom. Pics would help us here.
