1975 19-6 FF
« on: September 28, 2007, 08:49:37 AM »
Newbie here, quick story. I bought an old pontoon boat to rebuild. Guy said I could have the toon real cheap if I would take the other boat just to get it out of his yard. I got on the web to try and find some info and discovered this site. Wow, turned out my boat is a 75 AS 19-6 Family Fish.
Now, thanks to all the great info here, I'm going to put the toon rebuild on the back burner and try to get the AS going. I live in Oklahoma and boat on Eufaula Lake, you don't see alot of these boats here. The more I look at the old girl the more I like her. The members knowledge, experience and information on classic Aquasport.com is truly inspiring. I hope you can find patience with a land locked boater as I begin this rebuild journey.

Rick,

Got the cover off. LOL.  Went ahead and took the motor off. I had to do some serious Southern Engineering to remove the 125 Force, I'm going to have to get a few more needed tools. LOL

The floor is solid, the cover over the gas tank is spongy and of course the transom has a long crack in the fiberglass. The bottom of the hull feels to be solid. Everyone if you get a chance let know what you think, worth rebuilding? What about the 88 Force 125? Thanks.

Unlike Luke, you should not use the force.

I would however rebuild her, but only if you think it is a process you would not hate.  Half of rebuilding the boat is enjoying (it's slightly masochistic) the process and being proud of you work - the other half is enjoying using the finished product.

If you're going to hate the work, buy a functioning boat.

JCullins,

She looks good to be a 1975 :!:   Hatch over the gas tank just needs to be re-cored so not a major problem.  Did you do a "bounce" test on the transom before you took the motor off :?:   Best case senario is that the cap has just seperated and the transom might still have some life left.

I always thought the Family Fish was a pretty boat.  Fix her up :!:

I agree - good possibility it's just the liner cap where it goes over the tranom - common problem.

Moved her inside my shop building. Started removing and cleaning.

Are gas tanks supposed to be foamed in. No foam here. I'm going to pull the tank this weekend.

note: LilRichard, I've studied and re-studied all of your posted pictures as a reference. Outstanding work.
very good info.

Thanks.

No, not all tanks are foamed- there are reasons to go either way - and reasons not.  Almost all older tanks were foamed though.

That tank may be a replacement... it looks to be in good shape for its age.  Let us know how it turns out- those strapped areas may be a problem.

The tank is out. Is there any to get the old fuel line and vent line out. I hate to cut the floor out, its solid. The fuel and vent are foamed in.
