Welcome to the forum.

You have two choices: from the inside, or from the outside.

Check out my rebuild (1971 flatback) to see how it works from the inside.  I have layed out a pretty normal sequence of events.  Start by removing the inner skin, then getting all the old wood out of your transom.

If you want to see an outside job, check out the classivmako forum... several over there.

Welcome aboard maine170  :!:  :!:
If you start going through the member photo gallery here, there are several examples of redoing your transom both from the inside of the boat (like lilrich said), between the inside and outside (seacast) and from the outside of the boat too.
We're standing by if you need us.
