My plan was to cut off the long fill tube, and have a welder change the angle to come off right at the tank. also to change the vent to be forward near the fill.

I think that is a good idea Jim...
Wiler, FYI you would want the pickup toward the stern- that way you end up with more "usable" fuel when the boat is on a plane.

ok the long tube is the fill tube. but what is the hole in the center and the nipple next to it for. also is the smaller tube that comes out the other side of the tank of the long tube the pickup for the motor?
sorry guys but im going to have a million of these easy questions. i just don't know about alot of the small details.

Ok, there should be two three "tubes". One fill (big one), one vent (smaller one, one barb) and a fuel pickup (probably bronze or SS, multiple barbs).
The hole in the middle is for a fuel sender - or someone accidentally put a hammer through the tank. :afro:

i tried making fillet material but i don't think that it came out right! i used milled fibers and cabosil is this the right ingredients? it wasn't that peanut butter color that i usually see and it also didn't have the peanut butter texture. what did i do and use wrong

how many layers should i be putting on the bulkheads between the stringers? these are the bulkheads that are enclosing the fuel tank. i am using what i think is 1707. its a stitch with a little mat on the bottom i think. I have two layers over the entire bulkhead and two layers that are 6 inches up the bulkhead holding them to the hull.

i will have some pics up later today when i get out of school but i am in need of some suggestions.
First, my gas tank is ready to go in but i am not sure how i want to do it. the bulkhead in the middle of the boat in between the two stringers either needs a hole in the middle or i was going to cut a U shape in it. Will this significantly reduce the strength of the bulkhead holding supporting the stringers apart. the bulkhead is 30 inches wide and 21 inches high. i would need the U shape to be 4 inches wide and 8 inches from the top going down. The reason for this is because the fill is awkward as you can see and its just too much of a hassle and money to get it fixed so I have to do what i can with it.
Second, is about adding strength to the hull by laying a layer or two over the entire hull. I purchased plenty 2415 will this work for strengthining the hull and if so how many layers should i lay.

Don't cut sections out of stringers if you don't have to. Cut a hole in it, and sleeve it with PVC (don't want water intrusion). However it would prolly only cost $20-30 to have someone fix that tank the right way... Aluminum welding is not rocket science.
2415 is ok, but 1808 is better.

I did it all until the paint and some of the fairing. I started medical school so I had no more time to complete the job. But a year and a half of hard work is starting to pay off!
