she will be in the garage in the morning just bought it from captjfran im sure you have seen his pics of the boat he was selling.
any ideas on what to put her on so that she is movable in and out the garage. any kind of dolly or wheel system that i can build so that she is somewhat movable. the garage is wide enough but not deep enough. so will have to put her in at an angle and then move her around. any ideas will help trust me!

wiler55 -
Almost bought that from Jim myself. Good call. I wasn't looking for one with the liner totally out. Hopefully you got that trailer from him. Nice trailer with guides and all...sweet deal.

Wiler-
Where are you located?
How much glass experience do you have?
I would start by getting a tank coffin setup... meaning installing the bulkheads for the tank. Then you will need to run the remaining bulkheads. From there you will want to get the rigging tubes setup, then comes the floor.
I can walk you through some thoughts (my opinions) if you'd like.

i would love for you to run me through everything!
i live in tampa palms off bruce be downs and I 75.
I have a roll of 1808 and am gong to the fiberglass shop this week either poly or fiberglass coatings.
what should i get as far as resin, more sheets and accessories so that i will have the material to glass, fillet, fill, material for the extra stringers in the middle ect....
What is the difference between the white sole material that has plastic pockets and is very light weight and heaver material like capt rick used on his sole.
I was thinking of using the heaver more solid floor to prevent soft spots in the future and so that i would not have to cut anything out and put in other material for rigging such as the tower.

as far as glassing experience i just fixed a hole in my brothers boat and it is very strong and looks great. glassing is not the problem its the smaller things like mixing the fillet mixture cause i dont know what goes in it. or homemade fairing compound with cilica and wood flour i have seen these used on other peoples restoration but i have no clue what is used when

Ok, I will try to answer everything...
First, find out what was used on the boat to begin with... I think Jim was using either Polyester resin or vinylester... as long as it was not epoxy, you can put poly over it. I normally use general purpose layup resin (GP). It can be bought at FGCI for about $125 a pail.
As far as sole material, the "light stuff" you're referring to is nidacore... it's a honeycomb. It is fine to use, but you have to put backers (or backfill) the material everywhere you mount a fastener to it. What Capt Rick used is Penske board, which is nearly identical to Coosa board. It's basically a foam / fiberglass sandwich and has good screw retention. They are both good choices, and both have their positives. I would personally go with penske if I was going the composite route.
For what else you will need, all I can do is tell you what I keep around:
- a roll of 1.5oz mat (for surface work... negates "print through"
- a roll of 1808 XM
- a roll of 2415 stitchmat
- a box of cabosil (10 lb I think- big box)
- a box of milled fibers
- a slew of rollers, brushes for applying resin
- a few metal ribbed rollers to work out air bubbles
- a 7" heavy duty grinder (to use with fiber disks)
- a 3.5" grinder for smaller work
- a small assortment of air tools including a DA sander and an inline sander
That will get you well on your way. Once again, these are just the tools and materials in my kit... tailor your own tools to your needs.
I am in forest hills... so sometime swing by and we can chat further. PM me.
