Aquasport 240 - Our full custom rebuild
« on: July 16, 2007, 05:47:51 PM »
As big Aquasport fans, we have had an awesome time having our 1972 Aquasport 240 Spaceship custom rebuilt. The family have been lucky to have owned an Aquasport since the late 70's (1976 - 19'6) and then followed by two 222s. As the family is growing we moved up to the 240 & rather than buy production we went for custom built to make sure we covered all our fishing & family needs. After much searching around, I decided to put my project in the hands of Bayside Marine Services who work out of Palmetto, FL. Over the last few months we have met up with Will Leslie (Bayside Marine) on a weekly basis to develop & progress the project. Will & his team pulled out all the stops to ensure we were ready & on the water for an important fishing tournement, since which two of our buddies have handed their Aquasports over for work ! We have posted pics of the rebuild in the Members Gallery.

I was in Quality T-tops last week and saw your boat in there. Looks like a really solid build and a great fishing platform. Love the tower and leaning post, I think there going to do something very similar on my boat. Why did you go the bracket route instead of a porta bracket? Any preference? Im debating which im doing with my boat.

gorgeous boat!  a buddy who lives in that area has great things to say about Bayside's shop.  looks like the proof is in the pudding.  well done.

quick question - how much clearance do you have on each side of the t-top?  it appears to be narrow but that could also be an optical illusion due to camera angle.

is that a sanchez bros. top?

The design of the tower is unique -

both artistic and functional - can I assume that the reason to connect the tower to the center console is for wiring/cabling?  The way it flows, you'd never suspect it. Is the Suzuki the "fly-by-wire" model?

Beautiful boat.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys

Slippery73 - We got the mold to the 240 transom cap for this project which resulted in the 'stepped' transom design. This step in the transom meant that I was limited in my options when hanging the engine.

Will at Bayside is a dealer for Porta Bracket and he has very nice molds for the swim platforms which I saw on his 222s but  I had a fixed bracket made locally and the end result works very well.

Hookdup - The tower is from Quality in Tarpon Springs. It was built to fit my console and delivered to Bayside for installation and rigging. The clearence allows for comfortable walk around space but I had the cap re-enforced to enable two people to pass.

RickK - The suzuki is not fly-by-wire, however I had their latest single multi-function gauge installed which means I dont have to have numerous gauges cluttering up my console.

We have just got back from four days in Islamorada, great fishing and boat lived up to our expectations.
