19-6 Badges

Bob (co-owner with Joel of the famous Flatback diver) has kindly loaned me a 19-6 badge to lift a mold from:



  He will be getting his original back with two "new" badges from the mold.  The only "classic" badge I'm missing now is the 170.  If anyone needs a 19-6 badge for his project or wants to replace vinyl ones, let me know.  No cost... unless there is a rash of orders which will require a modest contribution to cover material expense.

I am a brand new member and just got a 1975 19-6 last week and love it already.  Mostly cosmetic fixes, but as you all know, that always leads to a few toher things!  I only have on badge and 25% of the other.

Welcome john saco! If you notice the last post on this thread was in 07. I don't know if anyone has spoken to jimct lately maybe rickk can help us out like I thought he was going to do after the last gathering. There are many of us 19-6 owners who are waiting on a reply from jimct.

I've kinda lost hope on the 19-6 badges. However, perhaps some of you 19-6 owners can help me out on powering my 1975 19-6? I've restored the hull and am now ready for power. There seems to be a lot of confusion on powering these 19-6's. Weight seems to be the big problem because of the suppers being underwater with too much weight. I want a 4 stroke but they are heavy. I like Yamaha's but it seems Suzuki's are popular because they are lighter in weight. I was thinking of a 140 Suzuki at 419lbs for a short shaft. Much lighter than a 115 Yamaha at 466 lbs. But I'm thinking I have to be under 400lbs to keep the scuppers out of the water. A Suzuki 100hp is the same weight as the 140. I'm shooting for fuel economy and the ability to get on plane. I don't want to fly. Just get there and back. Any thoughts on a Suziki 90hp 4 stroke. It's only 341 lbs for a short shaft. That will keep my scppers out of the water but is it enough power??? Any info and help would be appreciated. I don't want to make a 8k mistake!!! John/ Ft.Myers

It's kind of a tough call John.  I guess you really need to ask yourself what's more important- scuppers not being submerged or higher speeds?

I had a 90hp motor on my 19-6 at one point, and it was OK.  The boat planed out fine and would do just over 30mph with that motor WOT.  I'd expect the new 90HP Suzy 4S would perform about the same, and would cruise between 23-25mph.  That's performance like a pontoon boat.  If you're ok with it, great.  I wasn't ecstatic about that speed, but it got the job done, and the scuppers were still above the waterline.

I have a Suzy DF140 now, and the scuppers are normally below the waterline by about 2", unless you stand on the bow, then they are above the waterline and will drain.  Otherwise, you must be on plane for them to drain.

In my opinion, the speed along with the fuel economy, not to mention more power to maneuver your boat while trying to put in on the trailer or navigate a tight creek, etc, makes the scuppers being below the waterline a small price to pay.  I bought a cheap pair of ping pong ball style scuppers, and it has now become a non-issue.

Unless you plan of leaving your boat floating at dock for long periods of time, the scuppers being below the waterline is really no big deal.

Another point to consider-  if you ever go to sell your boat, a 20' C/C w/ a 90HP outboard is going to seem underpowered to most of the potential buyers.  If you never see yourself selling it, that is a mute point.  In all honesty, if my old 90HP never bit the dust, I would probably still have it on the boat.  But I'm glad it did...  8)
