19-1 vs. 19-6
« Reply #2 on: June 01, 2007, 08:11:23 AM »
It's a Custom 170, after all!

Did you notice the 19-1 that became the 19-6 later?  I guess they added 5 inches...

Somewhere I read that the model designators were rounded off, upwardly of course, for some models.  Dunno if fact or fiction.

The first motor that I had on the 170 was a straight 6 merc - she flew.

Merc's back then were the hot engine to have... they still look good and go like a bunny.

It's interesting that the new Merc Verados have gone back to a six cylinder inline engine, like the old "Tower of Power" ones from the 60s.

Jim, is there a chance that your 240 originally had a mini-tower?

RickK, I looked for signs of unexplained mounting holes which might have secured a tower and found none.

GF, that hi-rez picture of the 170 appears to show an aft casting platform with an integrally molded motor well.  Never seen one of those before.  Maybe not a popular option.

I think that was the Aquasport "Fisherman's Pack" with fish box, coller, live bait well, and battery storage.  It says "slip in in the stern section and you have the greatest fishing machine ever.  Take it out and you have a sizzling family ski boat."

So it looks like that whole rear section is a removeable option.  Never seen one, but I wonder if anyone has one or owns a boat with one...  :?:

Problem with that option (if the salesman was pitching that one to me) is the size of the thing and how & where to store it.  Sort of like having a cap on a pick-up truck; either it's on or it's off.  Switching back and forth is a nuisance.  Still, it's an interesting option.

If anyone else needs me to turn off the automatic sizing so that high rez ads and such can be uploaded, let me know.  I turned the auto-sizing on so the average photo upload didn't need to be sized by the member and when posted, it was the right size for viewing.
