Throttle on a 1999 245 explorer

Hoping someone can help.  I am having a lot of trouble with the throttle shifter in tight corners.  I have practiced and practiced, the shifter I have is for going forward, neutral, and reverse.  No problem there, I can deal with that.  the problem is when I come into a tight fuel dock and I have to tap it into gear.  In order to go from reverse to neutral I end up hitting forward ever !@$@#&&# time.  

Anyone have any ideas?  I have taken the unit apart and checked everything and still can't figure it out.

Does anyone know of a shifter that works on our type of steering that is two levers? Clutch and seperate throttle for outboards?  I have not been able to find one.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can get a dual control Morse setup and have one for throttle and one for gears.  Just put one cable to each side.  Also, the correct color code for the knobs is black for shift and red for throttle.

thank you both for the idea.  I didn't think that type of control could be used with an outboard rig.

Justin,
You have an OMC single binnacle.  These shifters are easy to operate, but it seems you are experiencing some stiffness, which causes you to go past N and into F.  Work your shifter lever with the motor off, if there is any stiffness, give it some lube spray on the underside where the cable attaches, and see how she feels.   Also, take the motor cowling off and lube up the shift/throttle cables with the same spray.  The reason OMC, Merc, Yamaha, etc. invented single lever, dual function controls was to get away from the two lever controls like the Morse someone showed you.  Ancient stuff!  See how it works out.
