Not sure exactly what the brown material is, I'll ask.
Thinking about the 23 or 25 gallon plastic tank.
I've got 9.25" in height , 23" wide available.

The large space toward the bow will be the fuel tank. I'm actually going to move it forward enough so that the access port will be in the bottom of one of the hatches in the casting deck. That means moving the middle spacer next to the vacume, forward about 6".

The water tank will go right behind it, probally below the console.

The stringer layout will eventually be filled with foam and then fiberglassed over.

There is a husband and wife team down here that restores boats.  Mostly in the yacht class.

Looks like it but, as Rich mentioned, it's probably something else.  I wouldn't expect wood going back in anywhere except maybe the transom and deck. Maybe on a home rebuild but not a professional job.

What I found is that the tank I got arrived in the basic size I ordered but the sides and top were bowed out making it a little bigger than I wanted - I'm hoping it will fit ok.  The learning point is, don't go exact; go a little smaller if you can find a prefab. Leave a little room for the bowing. The one I bought was a prefab size and was exactly the size I needed.  I expected it to be like an aluminum or fiberglass box - some flat square thing - something predictable.  Instead it came in as a square thing that had bow-outs on 2 sides - would have been ok if it was a bow-in.  I guess plastic is not a perfect material?

Finally got to posting some more pics.

Rick, the tank I ordered is a 25 gallon. The space for it is larger than the tank so I think I’ll be ok there, good to know though.

Richard, that's not any kind of wood composite, there's absolutely no wood in this boat.

The stringers are glassed in.








Looking at the picture below, the first forward area in the center will be accessable storage from within the casting deck, the second area will be the 70 gallon fuel tank, the third area will be the 25 gallon water tank and the most rear area is for the bilge.
The 4 white areas in the rear on the sides are below deck storage sized to fit 1 scuba tank each.

I found a motor. It's a 175hp 2003 Optimax that was installed in 2005 so there's still 1 year remaining on the factory warrantee. Got it for $5K.  The right size and right price range. Seemed like a good deal.

Thought we lost you Mike and you went out and bought a Bayliner... Good deal on that motor! Basically new and still under warranty.

 They're doing a great job for you with the restoration & those stowage areas will come in handy.  Maybe insulate one for the option to keep beer/fish iced down?

 Girls are good luck.  I like to keep two or three around... more the merrier. Seriously though, some of the best painters, varnishers and shipwrights I've known have been women.  Maybe it's an inborn sense for detail or something.  Nice to see you have one on the case; she'll see it's done right.

Coming along nicely - what are the 2 extreme aft underdecks for?
Sounds like you got a decent deal on the motor.
Is your old casting deck still going to fit back in or are you not going to use it anymore?  If so, the forward storage would be "under" the casting deck?  Like a hidden panel?

Hey Jim, No I didn't go buy a Bayliner. I wouldn't even give one of those to someone I didn't like!

Girls are good luck huh ....... well I'll have go get me a few ... although if my wife finds out, my luck will most certainly change!

Hey Rick, there's a total of 4 under aft under deck compartments, two on each side.

I will have a casting deck. You are correct Rick, the forward compartment will be a hatch in the bottom of the casting deck compartment. A hatch within a hatch.

I'm a little confused though - looks like they're not using your old casting deck as I thought - building a new one?  You had a lot of room in the old one. Going from 3 storage places to one? (plus the "secret" one)

Have to wait and see what they come up with I guess.

I'm soaking all this up along with LilRichard's and Shine's projects for the day I put my 22-2 in the ICU. Lot of good ideas I'm seeing, especially the sub-deck lockers.

 When the cap goes on are you going back to the #10 screws or are you going to glass it on like Shine's?

I like the idea of the subdeck storage too but would put some of those interlocking square rubber pads (forget what they are callled) in there to protect the hull, especially with dive tanks just banging around in there.

The underdeck lockers are cool... only problem is that the later 222s have more room than mine due to the deadrise in the hull.  I am planning on two on my boat, but they would not be tall enough for tanks.
