I'm afraid you are going to find it's the motor and not the cable. I have helped friends free up three different motors in the last year. Old grease (or lack of grease) sets up like concrete in the motor tilt tube. Cables are sealed and seldom freeze unless the jacket is cut. Either way, you will find out when you take it apart because the same steps to free the motor are required to get the cable out.
