My experience has been that for some reason the ground side of circuits seem to go bad much more often than the feed side. Any reason for that?

With a live well plumbed for raw water you can fill your boat up before you know it. Hulls can develop a crack and take on water. For the cost of a float switch and a horn I have more peace of mind.
