Congrats Jim!   :)

She should have a great ride with all the weight forward and down low in the bilge.

The 22-2 will fit in the hoophouse if I move the backhoe out.  I'd rather tarp the hoe than the boat.

Good thing I hung onto the rebuilt roller trailer.  The 22-2's sitting on a bunk trailer now and from the looks of things the prop and rudder appear a bit too close to the ground for comfort:

The roller trailer should gain me a few inches more space under there.

Been thinking... the very best of all possible worlds would be a FB inboard...    :D  :!:

Don't know that I would want a FB inboard... it's not like you'll be running super shallow with that, so I think I would rather have some deadrise in case you get into rough seas.

My question is, what will be the uses of the two boats?  Or is this just because you were dying to have each model?

I have no business at this point having two boats, with one of them in ICU, but the 22-2 inboards are rare birds.  Just couldn't let it go by.

Hey, not throwing stones... just curious.

I have often dreamed about what I would have for a second boat and always go back and forth between a 25-28' OB center console or an older express- maybe even an older AS express.  My reasoning is that I have the bay boat, now I need the offshore boat.

No stones seen.

I look at it this way: there's only one trip through this singular adventure called Life.  Once dead I'll be in no position to buy a 22-2 since the bank won't be honoring further checks from me.  Even if they did, I'd likely scare hell out of the seller.

If I find I've made a mistake in the purchase, likely there'd be a ready market for her... but I doubt a mistake's been made.

If you want a bay boat and the politics under your roof would permit one, go for it.

Jim- there's a good chance there'll be another boat in my future, but I am so wrapped up in my flatback that I cannot even think of adding to the confusion.  Not to mention I am still young in my career and have plenty of time to waste money!

I will say though, something like Ben's Dusky would sure make a nice addition to my collection.

Exactly why I got my 2nd boat, 'cept, for me, more for cruising and camping than deep sea fishing.

Stopped down to take a look:

Very happy with her general condition. Hull is still in gelcoat and is remarkably bruise-free for her age. No heavy build-up of bottom paint which may be explained by the fact she's an ex-Florida lift-stored boat.  She appears to have most all of her original fittings & accessories.  Far as I can tell she's as she was when built.

Engine's a tight fit between the stringers but the usual items are easily accessible.  Engine was apparently replaced back in the 80's and is FWC. Risers were replaced last year.  From what I've read the original engine was a Ford V8.  In her now is a Chrysler 318 V8 w/4 bbl rated 225HP@4000 RPM.  Batteries are in the cooler box where the helmsman sits.  They were likely moved there when the engine was replaced.  With the original Ford engine, batteries mounted in the engine compartment.  Engine has straight pipes, no mufflers... seller mentioned she had a bit of the rumble of a muscle car.  Be interesting to compare her performance vs. a comparably HP'd outboard 22-2.  I noticed she retains the outboard rigging trough in the deck beside the engine.  Since this boat has the engine directly under the console, the trough is empty.  Only items going to the stern are nav. light wires, fuel line and blower ducting which run below the deck.  When the deck is replaced the trough and cut in the stringer will be eliminated.

Looking at the scum line, she appears to be about at her design waterline.  If there is wet foam, the saturation likely isn't extensive.  Decks are as you'd expect to see in a thirty-three year old boat; more or less solid but with a hint of springiness here & there.  The removable deck panels are soft enough to need attention now.

Among other items with the boat are basic electronics, nearly new canvas, full set of cushions and various other bits & pieces.  Trailer is in good road-worthy condition.

I think she's a peach.

Hell of a find :!:  :!:
 I think I would just replace the bunks with taller ones - looks like someone doubled up the wood already.  Put 4x8x however long and that'll raise the boat up enough to keep the running gear off the ground.
Did you start her up? Wet test?

Jim,  that is a beautiful boat.  I wish you the best of luck with her.  I am sure she will be a sweet ride.

I had a shamrock for just over a year.  And the keel on that boat was very close to the trailer frame also.  Like Rick said, I raised the bunks about two inches; made a big difference.

Having the inboard was really easy maintence and the boat road great.  I am jealous.

The bunks were built up a couple of inches or so with overlaid planks.  The seller said when the hitch is at towing height the rudder is well clear of the road.  Still, it looks a bit close.  I like your idea of the 4 x 8's.  When I have her here I'll put her on blocks and sort out the trailer then.

Too cold to start the mill since we'd then have to go through winterizing it again.  Even if the engine is sour, which I doubt it is, that isn't a deal-breaker.

As Scotty from Star Trek would say:

"Aye Captain, she's a bonnie find!"

Looks like a great boat for cruising and offshore adventure.

One of a kind.
