1969 22’2 Flatback Restored

This is a friend of mines 69 Flatback 22’2 that he just had redone at Hammerhead Boat Works. We put in over at Davis Island on sat day an ran around to take some photos of the boat before the camera batteries died on me. The boat was great in the flat water and in the chop we had a westerly around 15kn that day and a 2 foot chop it went right through it like butter and stayed dry. I makes me want to get mine done faster now. The bulk of the photos are in the member gallery or my gallery

How'd the paralift work out?  Was the setback far enough to raise the engine significantly?

Yes, you can run it all the way up with no problem.

In this picture it looks like the boat sits really ass end heavy in the water at the transom.

Maybe its the picture. Looks like some wash behind the transom so maybe he just thru it into gear and the bow is coming up.

Captain's got me nervous with the talk about Shaeffer boats and how important weight distribution in those old 222's is to offset the weight of newer outboards.

Did you notice it sitting heavy in the transom?

My '86 222 isn't a flatback, but I have a 225 Opti on her and I built the transom up.  She definitely sits ass heavy at rest, but it actually improved the ride.  You indeed need tabs though.  It doesn't effect the draft either because I can run in a foot.

Ok guy's let me try to answer these.

1. The tower does not fold down you can get under the skyway on high tide to get bait it was made that way by Marine Specialties.

2. This boat is a little more heavy in the stern then most it has a 70 gal well built in the floor so they couldn’t move it up plus he did just come down off a plane.

3. The newer 4 strokes are a little heavy but not as heavy as 2 120 loopers that were on the back of mine or twin 75 that you saw back when the boats were new in the ads. In my 22'2 my fuel tank, console, and my baitwell is as far forward as you can put them to offset the weight.

4. Yes the boat needs tabs i know the guys at lenco and they are sending him a set of 9x12 trim tabs for the back that will make the boat ride a lot better.

Will guy's i got to go work on my front casting deck and get it installed so we can gel the inside in the next few days it's getting closer.

Capt. Jim - where is that 70 gallon floor live well? In front of the console or back by the transom?

Seadog if you look at this photo the livewell is just behined the console with the teak lid. It go's down in to the floor and rest on the hull of the boat so you could not move it during the rebuid.
