Let's say I was going to sell my 1987 222 . . .
« on: February 12, 2007, 02:21:59 PM »
. . . what might it be worth?

1987 222 Osprey.  S/S bowrail, S/S console rail.  New console windshield, new cooler/seat leaning post pad.  JBL CD/AM/FM stereo with remote in dash, 2- 6" Standard Horizon speakers.

2006 Mercury OptiMax 150 hp V6 with new oil tank.  New steering helm and throttle last season, runs flawlessly, Two battery tie down tray's in console with battery switch and two batteries.  2-teak rodholders in both port/starboard gunwales and 2 rodholders in gunwale.  4 rodholders on inside of transom splashwell/gate.  Boat has bottom paint.  Livewell in console/front of console.  Bilge pump, new switches for nav lights, cockpit lights, everything.

Would come with Magic Tilt/1993 roller trailer, 4,100 lb capacity, dual axle, surge drum brakes with flush.   What might this package go for?

I guess it is not a good post because there is no high amount and no too low amount and prices and money are oftentimes a personal thing, no worry, I thought I'd just put it out there anyway.  After all, after paying $12.500 for a new engine and steering system, how much would I expect to get back, right?

It's a tough call Ben.  $12 - $13K+ may be a reach in this market but with the new motor and the boat being in good shape you just might get somewhat more.  The universe is tiny here on ClassicAS.  A broadcast listing is the only way to find out where the market is.  Spring is coming and buyers will be breaking hibernation in a month or so.

If you do decide to put her on the block, make sure she's clean & fix any minor problems so she's plug & play ready. Pictures on the trailer are fine but pictures of her under way on a good day are even better.  The more you can capture a prospect's imagination the better.

I would say it's worth whatever the motor is worth plus 2-3k.  The motor should be pretty easy to appraise.

Keep in mind I'm no expert, or a potential buyer, so my opinion is worthless  8)

No, this helps.  I'm really torn now with a new boat on the way, yes, some trouble I have, right?

I know that the hull is not worth all that much, the book is like $3,000 and lower and the motor is now used but I would take the hit if I had to knowing that the whole shootin' match wouldn't be worth as much as it is in sentimental value.

I just wonder what it will be like with 2 boats on a dock that can only really take one and will I really use the 222 with the new baby on the way?  I probably would but in time I might not, I'll have to think about it a lot.

If you value it, keep it.  If you aren't going to use it for a year or two, mothball it.  Sounds like you've got a lot more tied up in that boat than just what it'll sell for.

That's tough.  It's worth whatever someone will pay for it and I'm not being sarcastic.  To the person that wants that boat it's worth a lot.  I would almost bet you could get more money selling them seperate.  The motor will sell easy.

I don't know about the dock but I do know about the driveway - right now they're getting ignored equally.  Life's got me pretty busy right now with a new puppy in the house and a to-do list that doesn't include boating.  Since they're totally different type boats, I want to be out on both of them.  If I could just figure out how
As far as what your 222 is worth, I agree with all that's already been said - tough call.  In the pix, make sure there are no leaves

I'll have to give this some thought.

I was pretty surprised that my Dad said we should keep the boat.  Why not have two?, right?  But when one does not get used and sits, then that would be terrible for a new OptiMax and considering the boat runs so darned well and would be a great shallow water/night boat that it has been for me I'm almost sure I'd use it at least some of the time.  Hard part is paying for a new boat and then not using it and that is my fear, that I'd want to use the new boat and leave the 222 at home.

I have 2 younger brothers and a brother in law but they don't go out much since I'm the one that takes everyone out anyway.  I cringe when I think that I'd let them take the 222 out as they are all ham-handed and just don't take care of things like they should but I might have to get over that.

I'll at least see what happens this season then think about this later.  For now, thanks for the replies, helps a lot.

Ha, I'm all the way here in MA.  The 2006 150 Opti is incredible for the boat though.

Perhaps selling the new power separate of the hull would open up a few other doors for you and yield a higher price.

I'll definitely consider this as it just may be the best-bet money-wise.  I'm sure as this season begins and by July-August I'll know what I might want to do.  If I am hooked on the new boat and just don't go out on the 222 as much as before, I'll have to put her up, the problems I have I'll tell ya.

Life is pretty hard when you just can's decide on which boat your gonna take fishing! LOL

Breaking the set and selling separately would be your best bet to get a better price for your boat. I'm trying to decide if I want a new Merc 250xs on my 222 CCP. I found a dealer that quoted $15,700 on one or $13,200 for a 225 Opti. The CCP would scream with that 250! I may have a 99' 200 EFI  merc for sale soon. Good luck!
Beware the lolipop of mediocrity, lick it once and you will suck forever!

$15,700 is a good price if that is rigged.  Last year I was quoted $16,400 for a Zuki 225 4-stroke rigged and $17+ for a Merc 2-stroke.
