Repowering a 2005 osprey 175
« on: January 25, 2025, 06:53:21 PM »
My 2005 90 hp 2stroke Yamaha is on its last leg with bearing issues.I’d like to keep my 175 osprey and was told by Yamaha was that a90 hp 4stroke would be ok .The issue is that the 4stroke weighs about 100 lbs more than the 2stroke motor.I bought the Aquasport 175 new and it said maximum horsepower is 115..Was that 115 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

I would think the hp is not the issue if the boat is rated for it but the extra weight may be. Did you like the 90 2stroke. I have always heard those motors make good rebuilds. Look at this build. It may have some answers

I agree with Duffy about rebuilding the 2 stroke. Not sure where you're located but see if you can locate a rebuilt powerhead place, not a mechanic to rebuild it.  We have one such place in Tampa FL and that is where I purchased my rebuilt powerhead.

I found the original Aquasport manual and it says the maximum weight allowed on a 175 osprey is 460 lbs. I think I`m going with the 90 4 stroke
