Hull Stringers
« on: December 23, 2024, 07:39:38 AM »
I'm new to the Aquasport brand and I found a couple of descent projects that would be easy for me and my kids to work on a little at a time one is a 170 striper, and the other is a 170 osprey I can fix soft floors and stuff like that no problem the issue I don't want to mess with is the stringers how prone are the stringers to rot out or weaken and how did they make and secure the older model stringers are they fully wrapped in fiberglass I seen where a couple were covered in foam and fiberglass and is there an inspection door in the floor somewhere I can do an actual visual inspection to get an idea of what kind of shape the floor is in thanks in advance for all of your help

The osprey stringers, unless redone, are almost certainly fiberglass. They had limited amounts of plywood coring in them that most people don't replace. I didn't. The big problem with the osprey stringers is almost ALL of them have waterlogged foam in them and some have segments that delaminate from the hull. I am in the middle of a rebuild if you want to look at pics,   inspection hatches will be boat specific so really hard to answer that one.

Fixing them is simple but not easy if that makes any sense. Good luck.
