1999 Aquasport 225 explorer cuddy
« on: July 20, 2024, 11:13:08 AM »
I just purchased a 1999 Aquaport 225 explorer cuddy. The boat is in good shape except for the 2 long cushions in the cabin. They are smelly and worn. I need to replace them or perhaps eliminate them. We are not planning on staying in the small cabin while underway or ever sleeping in it. Any thoughts on just removing them? Or, as an alternative, identifying a source to replace them.
Thanks for your help

Hi Tom, if you want some comfort in the cabin you should look for someone to reproduce them plus the filler cushion. You should have a porta-potty in the cabin, I keep ours hidden under the filler board holding up the filler cushion. Some of the later models put the porta-potty on a slide out under the helm floor. Anyway, if you ever have a female onboard, they'll appreciate the comfort.
When you have the whole cabin bed complete its a good place to store rods and stuff.
One thing I would look at is how the cushions got wet. Windows leaking? or left open? Does your cabin have a vent above that is leaking? My Explorer didn't come with one, I had to find one and cut it in.

Thanks Rick. I already installed a port a potty. The cushions in the cuddy cabin are not wet, just worn and I guess are the originals which would make them 25 years old. They feel like foam rubber. I was wondering if any members replaced them, reupholstered them, or found it easier to just remove them. The cabin has screens on the side windows.
