NEW MOTORS 250 CCP

Good morning,

I have a question about motorizing my 250ccp boat.
I currently have a Honda BF225A mounted and I'm considering replacing it with two 150 motors.
I'm concerned about whether the transom can support the weight of two motors and if they will fit properly. Would it be better to go for two 115 motors instead?



I'd appreciate hearing all your thoughts on this motorization change.

Why not go with a single 300? You really can’t go wrong that route.

I was also considering this option, (which would also be the one that appeals to me the most so I don't have the double maintenance costs and double possibility of breakdowns).
I initially thought it couldn't be done because the maximum indicated engine size should be 300 hp, but with two strokes, meaning lighter engines.

Did I misinterpret that?

Just about any configuration of twin motors (115,140,150hp) will be heavier than a single 300hp motor from the research. You typically get better efficiency, speed, etc. with a single 300 with less weight on the transom. 2 strokes were indeed lighter than todays 4 strokes with the same horsepower but the Yamaha lineup is really hard to beat. With a dry hull weight of 2600lbs, I would imagine you would be really happy with a single 300.

I would think with an 8’ beam, twins of any size would be a no go.
