I'm considering repowering my 1998 Aquasport 215 dc to newer and consequently heavier four stroke Yamaha 300hp. The weight limit of 300hp in those days is much different from the newer four stroke 300's of today. From what I've found so far, instead of only the OMC 200's Aqausport also offered twin 2 stroke Merc 150's about the same time my boat was built. The 150's are about 400# each and a newer 300 is about 600#. I'm rounding off the actual figures but with this logic, I figure I should be ok hanging a four stroke on my boat. BUT - this particular model (215 dc) transom "cut out" doesn't appear wide enough to accommodate twin motors so with that in mind the transom may not be reinforced well enough to support added weight.
What do you think?
